Needing a new onboard charger because I'm pretty sure the original from 1998 just went out. Well at least 1 bank. Anyways it was time to upgrade what do you all suggest for a 3 bank charger? The trolling batteries are 1 year old SRM 27 interstates and the cranking is 24 M-XHD.

I have been more than pleased with my Minn Kota Precision charger. They are small and light for their size.

I was looking at this one but then I read about overcharging batteries and ppl had problems with them boiling them.

All of the top brands are great, do a little research and figure out what you want it to do, and what you want to spend.

I've got a Minn Kota four bank that is at least eight years old and runs every minute the boat is not in the water or rolling down the road, zero issues.  I've also got a Minn Kota single bank for my electronics battery that's on it's 3rd season working just fine as well.

Mostly ignore the bad, unless you see the same thing over and over about the same specific model.

Since every manufacturer will produce a bad unit now and then, there will always be some out there.  Or some tiny component may not go bad until it has been used x-number of times.

Also keep in mind that people who had a problem are about ten times more likely to write a review, post about the problem on a forum, or go out of their way to comment...happy customers are generally quiet customers.

On the service side, you always have to ask yourself how the person with the problem approached the company.

Were they reasonable, or did they take an aggressive stance right away?  There are some people with egos so big they can't get 'round the idea that their problem isn't any different than everyone else's...and when a company doesn't bend over backwards to kiss their fannies, they delight in bad-mouthing them for the rest of their lives...then you've got the passive aggressive folks who never come right out and tell the company what they want, but who are happy to blast the company in subtle...and not so subtle...ways for years because the company failed to read their mind...and all the quirky psychology in between, and around those two types.

"Grain of salt" always occurs to me when I read a scathing, negative review.

I'll go back to what I said before: decide what features you want, buy the unit from one of the top manufacturers that has all those features at a price you can live with...odds are good you'll be happy.

I have personal experience with both the Dual Pro Professional Series and Minn Kota 210.

If I ever get a new boat it's most likely going to be a Dual Pro Professional or NOCO, most likely the Dual Pro. The Dual Pro charged 3 batteries on my old boat that shouldn’t have gone 7 years and that's when the batteries were already old (1 starting and 2 deep cycle).

Both Dual Pro and NOCO recommend keeping the battery on the charger 24-7/365 and the Minn Kota does not, if that tells you anything. Also, the Dual Pro is supposed to equalize the cells every 30 days which is good for long term battery maintenance.

Also, Dual Pro comes with Ranger boats if that's a good recommendation.

I'd get the number of banks for batteries you have, so if you have 1 starting and 1 trolling motor/accessory battery I'd get a 2 bank, or even 3 bank if you plan on ever adding a larger TM that requires another battery.

I have to plug in the onboard charger and a separate charger and it sucks when the original owner just didn't buy a 3 bank. He went cheap and bought a 2 bank....probably saved like $50-$100 bucks.

I am not a fan of onboard chargers. I have had several different brands and they have all failed and caused me battery problems. I got away from them all together. I use three Schumacher ShipNshore chargers and they always work and I do not have any battery problems. It may take maybe two more minutes to hook up, but not having problems is definitely worth it.  And it will save you some weight.  Just my opinion.

So you just take all 3 with you everywhere? And leave them on the back deck charging? I can't always park under overhangs when travelling fishing and my cover is not good anymore. I would be worried about the outside elements.

Yes Sir,  I put them under my cover if there is a chance of rain. other than that just on deck.

I can't recall ever seeing a bad review about Dual Pros.

What models did you have?

I'm not sure the models, as it has been quite some time. I know I had two two bank chargers and a three bank charger that all went out. Also I was wrong when I said I never had a NOCO.  The last onboard charger I owned was a NOCO.  It dropped one of the three.
