chadfish11 Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Forgot the scale, and I'm not used to catching smallies this big as he is my personal best: https://imgur.com/a/VzelOnI Was wondering if some more seasoned fishermen could give me some estimates. I'm thinking 5lber. He was caught on Lake St. Clair in about 10ft of water using a Strike King Perch-colored 12-foot diving crankbait rigged on a Lew's Mach 2 Combo baitcaster. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 16, 2018 Super User Posted June 16, 2018 Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Nice Smallie. Looks like 3 pounds. A-Jay 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 16, 2018 Global Moderator Posted June 16, 2018 Smallies are even harder to guess than largemouth imo. They seem to vary in thickness and density a lot. Did you get a length and girth measurement on it? Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 16, 2018 Super User Posted June 16, 2018 5lb?... hmmm, might be. Are you 6'4" 240lbs? Smallies are fun to catch at any size. You'll remember that fish for a long while, at least until you catch a bigger one! oe Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 16, 2018 Super User Posted June 16, 2018 Welcome aboard! I don't get enough smallie action as they're not down in my neck of the woods, though I do love to fish 'em when I'm in their neck Will leave the guesses up to the experts. Any way you slice it, that's a really nice catch! Quote

Nonetheless no matter the number this fish weighed in at he was a heck of a good fighter and a blast to catch. 1 hour ago, Darren. said: Welcome aboard! Super User Dwight Hottle Posted June 16, 2018 Super User Posted June 16, 2018 Welcome to BR Chad. Looks like a 3-4 lber to me based on your first picture. Pics 2 & 3 make it look smaller. Anyhow it's big enough to give you a great fight. Quote

LadiMopar Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 If you took measurements or have a general idea of length/girth try the weight calculator here at BR. https://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 8, 2018 Super User Posted July 8, 2018 I think 3.5 based upon his belly by the anal fin. That's where they pack on the weight. Quote
