So I have been using a 7 ft MH F for frogging and it just isn’t cutting it. It’s some brand of rod I never heard of (hurricane redbone) and the butt end is short so I can’t get good leverage and the Mh isn’t working with all the weeds. I fish out of a canoe so I need something strong and with a longer Butt end to help get leverage on Hookset. Can anyone help steer s guy in the right direction for a frogging stick. Price range is around 130-150$

@Ksam1234 you're welcome. If you like the specs of the lews, I've got one that I don't use anymore and have been contemplating getting rid o. For a good price

A few other frog rod posts on this site.  Other fishing forums also have frog rod threads.  See if any suggestions trip your trigger.  :teeth:

Yeah I see those now. Thanks. I think I might go with the irod genesis or Dobyns fury

IROD any series Fred's Magic Stick. If you like a shorter rod go with the 704. I myself was using the Genesis 2 754 and thought that was "the rod" until I bought the Air 754. You don't need to spend that much if you don't want. The Fiber and the G2 are the same blank but differ in components. My experience is that the tiny extra weight of the guides makes the Fiber feel like it has a softer tip than the G2. Sounds wierd, but the G2 seems faster and more stout, but it isn't and you feel it when you set the hook they are the same rod.

Awesome thank you. I guess I’m going with the Irod. Now it says it’s H   Rod but moderate fast. Does that hinder anything? I’ll be fishing heavy lily pads and slop. I don’t do tons of open water but a little. Will the moderate fast not be able to pull fish out fast enough ?

None. You will have plenty of power to pull "Big Mama" out! The rod has a ton of backbone. I fish heavy mats and sometimes bring in 2 lbs of grass with 3 to 5lbers.

Your Hurricane Redbone is sold as a saltwater rod.  Best I can tell they are fairly popular in Florida.  Florida is the only place I have seen them in stores.  It was a member here that recommended them to me.  I found two previous year's MLs for sale at the mom-and-pop shop I visit when in Florida.  Bought one.  Later wished I'd bought both.  These were IM6...new ones are IM7.

My ML is rated 3/8-3/4 oz.  It will flat out launch a 3/8 oz. popper.  If the action of your MH is anything like my ML, then I can understand why you don't like it as a frog rod.  I often fish treble hook lures with mine.  I like the rod a lot and feel it would have been well worth full price.

Luckily I found mine floating in a pond ?

I plan on buying a Daiwa Tatula 7'4" H/F frogging rod at some point, it's just a matter of getting the money.

I bought this rod after reading all the good reviews/opinions of it.  The first frog I tried with it was a 1/2 oz. Booyah.  Distance is only ok.  A 5/8 oz. frog sails pretty good.  :teeth:  Rod shipped to Florida where I got to use it earlier this year to no avail.  Temps too low.  Maybe next year I'll have a chance to catch a few fish on it.

Did you try it with some heavy jigs by chance? Wondering if it would double nicely for jigs...

If not, the slightly less meaty 7'2" rod might be a better option.

Dobyn's makes 2 frog rods; DC735 and DC736 that I would call the base line for all other frog rods. Dobyns Fury line FR735 is a different blank and OK for frogs but a fast action jig rod first, a frog rod second.

IROD IRG754F is inbetween the DC735 and 736, casts better then the 736 because a slower action but not as powerful. IRG 754F is a frog rod first, small swimbait and then a jig or ultilty rod.

If you are looking for a dedicated frog rod the IROD is hard to top at $150 price point.

No.  I haven't.  Sorry.

The thing with a frog rod is you need the power due to the cover but enough tip to load and cast well. I can't speak to the production rods but don't be afraid to look at a light musky rod or an in shore label to get the characteristics you want.
