Somd Fx4 Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 I started kayak fishing. Hopefully I can get a few that size. Quote

SlappinKraken Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I was thinking about buying a compass. However, one of my favorite lakes is pretty shallow and I'll likely be paddling it more on this lake. I was wondering if anyone has experience going through vegetation with the fins flat against the kayak, or should the drive be removed for these situations. Also, is it difficult to paddle? Here's an image of the stuff I'd like to paddle through. Some parts are much thicker, too. 1 1 Quote

I have a slayer propel and i fish a lot of pads. i just put up the propeller and paddle out to where i need to be. no big deal. 1 Quote
haggard Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Quote I was wondering if anyone has experience going through vegetation with the fins flat against the kayak I've tried the Mirage drive in weedy shallows once but not yet through thick surface pads. You can operate the fins up against the hull by pushing one foot full forward and the other full back, then pedal with very slight movements - it still moves the boat but the fins stay up close to the hull. Also, is it difficult to paddle? I paddle the PA12 with no issues using the supplied long paddle. The Outback is probably even easier since it's smaller and lighter. 1 Quote

Looks like it balances well in the bed without the need for a bed extender. Three or four cheap pool noodles under it in the bed help cushion it and spread out the load to protect the hull, and their shape lets you roll the boat in and out instead of sliding it. Looking forward to reading about the first voyage, and better yet the first catch. Nice color. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 25, 2018 Super User Posted June 25, 2018 Thanks, had it out last night. No fishing from it yet. I've had some seat time in both the PA12 and PA14. This is a different boat, altogether. Light, stable, and fast. It's more like a traditional SOT fishing kayak. It also paddles well, which was a pleasant surprise. Quote
