biggiesmalls Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Travelling to Florida for two weeks, and while I'm there I want to try some freshwater ponds and canals for exotics, like snakeheads and peacock bass. So, which of those lures in the title would you choose when going for these species? Tight lines Drew Quote
jr231 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Someone once told me the best bait to use in Florida, is live shrimp. Careful though cuz everything eats it Quote
Mumbly Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 I've had decent sized smallmouth put a hurt on a Tiny Torpedo. I can't imagine what a peacock would do it. ? Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 15, 2018 Super User Posted June 15, 2018 Peacock bass like propbaits as well as poppers, jerkbaits, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, jigs, etc.Snakeheads will hit the same lures a bass will hit but I have done best with hollow belly frogs and soft plastic frogs. Quote

Sounds like I'll pick up a few tiny torpedos to try out. Do you have a color that works best in SoFL? Drew Quote
greentrout Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Caught a lot of bass on the Tiny T...great lure...caught some nice bass with the chug bug...the little one...using the cadence chug bug (let it rest) chug bug (let it rest)...strikes are explosive... good fishing... Quote

I prefer using the baby torpedo over the tiny torpedo. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Most Florida ponds have a lot of vegetation. Weedless frog and buzz bait for top water. 1 Quote
crypt Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 another bait I use is a Devils Horse.......around the edges of grass lines, pockets, any ambush point. faster the better on the retrieve.peacocks will chase down a bait like a freight train. good luck. 1 Quote
