Andrew Bergholtz Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 My in laws have a place in Cutler ME and will be going up there July 4th week. Does anyone suggest some smaller, bank fishing spots? Will be having her 5 year old nephew along as well. Preferably non trout fishing, as we weren't planning on getting specific licenses. Something with a hook and bobber fun panfish and occasional LM or SM Bass as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also anything around Cutler would work as well, not looking to drive more than 30 minutes or so. Thank you! Quote
BassB8Caster Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Man thats completely across the state from me (W. Maine). what i do is look on google maps and find names of ponds in the area. Google that pond/lake maine fishing and a pdf should pop up of a survey done on the water. or look around on maine.gov website as they post all those survey maps. Can search on there by county then water body name. The survey maps will give you some depths of the water as well as fish in them. Just keep in mind most are very old. So use as a rough guide. Quote

There is no seperate fishing license for trout, one license does it all for fresh water. And last I knew it was either $1.00 extra or now comes with salt water fishing. Take @BassB8casters advice on searching ponds and lakes, Along with using your google maps of the area. if the pond has bass, chances are that is has perch and sunfish ready to bite. Worst case, go out at at dark with or without a bobber and catch some huge 8” Hornpout! Quote

Sorry late to the party, I'm from Cutler grew up there now I live in East Machias 20 min from Cutler. Hope you found some water. The area is loaded with great lakes well within 45 min from cutler. Great bass fishing. Quote
BurrStone Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Speaking of Washington County, last June I spent a week fishing the Grand Falls Flowage. Stayed at Down River Camps. Had a blast and caught a lot. But as we plan a return I wonder - we were fishing over barely submerged tree stumps over the entire body of water. It kept us on our toes, was slow going between spots, and made using anything but t-rigged senkos nearly impossible. Are these the same conditions on the other side of the bridge where you have Long Lake and Big Lake? We never headed in that direction. And having asked that, is the fishing as good over there? Quote

GFF is my 2nd favorite lake, to be honest fishing is way better there than on Big or Long, that said as you travel towards big the tree stump disappear, however you have to keep an eye for rock piles everywhere. There are also submerged cribs filled with rocks for holding the log drives back in the day. All of our lakes unless you know how to run them it's best to go slow and have a spotter, most of our lakes are not marked. In short more and bigger bass in GFF, 3 to 4 pound smallmouth and largemouth are not uncommon, but the average bass is a healthy 2 1/2 pounds. If you were there in June I was there too, GFF was great all year I fished there at least 12 times and it never let me down. Don't forget it's catch and release only for smallmouth and please don't Iisten to the guides and IF&W and dont kill the largemouth, there is enough water and feed for both species and the fishing has become even better with both. BurrStone Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I was spotter last year and we did fine. Fact is all that structure has to help. And we were and are strictly catch & release, including largemouth and pickerel. Probably going to be there the second week of June. Thanks for the great advice. Quote
