TylerT123 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I’ve got a Curado K and no rod yet, I have it on an old, cheap casting rod just to use. I want an all around setup, with about a medium power and a softer action. I found some Curado Rods on sale for $130 but I’m afraid that they won’t be able to cast lighter baits that well. I looked at a couple Dobyns Fury including the 734C and they all seemed really stiff. The rod I’m currently using has no lure rating and I’ve casted 1/10 oz Ned rig along with 1 1/2 oz lures and it’s worked well. Any casting rod recommendations sub $130? Quote
CroakHunter Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 What is the main techniques you will use this setup for. 1/10th to 1.5 ounces is a really wide range. Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 12, 2018 Super User Posted June 12, 2018 Curado k is a bit to much reel for a medium action rod might want to go medium heavy I understand that you like the reel because it castes extremely light lures and Shimano reels have always been known for that. If you absolutely must go medium I think you should probably go with a mojo 68 medium fast or even extra fast you’ll be able to throw Ned rigs quite nicely on either one of these set ups. If you do decide to go medium heavy try the mojo 7 medium heavy moderate fast you can do everything on this rod. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 12, 2018 Super User Posted June 12, 2018 I've got a few rods. Never tried those extremes with any of them, but I'd not be surprised if none handled both those weights very well. I bought a Light power rod to learn how to fish Ned Rigs. Many use ML or M. I'd be using a Heavy for 1-1/2 oz. Personally I wouldn't attempt to cast a Ned Rig on rods similar to the 734C, but then I don't have the skill of most of these guys (and gals) on here. 1/10 oz. plus plastic would probably still be under the 1/4 oz. rating for the rod. However, ratings are guides. Some rods handle more (or less, or both) than what is listed on the rod fairly well. Only way to know is to try. I've never used a Fury so I don't know how true they are to their ratings. Be sure to let us know if you find a rod capable of handling those extremes. I'm sure there are many people that use only one or two rods that would like to know about such a rod. I'm guessing the sensitivity on your rod isn't all that great. Is it an Ugly Stick? 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 My K 8.5:1 with 15lb Invizx is on a Carbonlite 2.0 (4.5oz) 7' MH fast tip and is my plastics rig, mainly weightless worms. A great set up. I also have a Chronarch MGL 8.1:1 on a 7' Medium Carbonlite 2.0 (4.2oz) fast tip with the same line and also used for weightless plastics. Another really sweet combination. Love those new Winn grips. SMITTY0045 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I would recommend a falcon bucoo in the 7’ MH. For falcon, a MH kind of falls closer to a medium than average, but it still has plenty of backbone. I have thrown a wide range of lures on it myself and it performs really well Quote

Everything, and I’ve found that my Curado K casts both sides of the spectrum amazingly. I haven’t been fishing long, so there are many techniques I haven’t tried and I plan to try. I love topwater but it’s almost always windy here. Right now I fish, lipless cranks, weightless plastics, jigs, topwater and spinnerbaits. Anyone think that they will have diy spools for the Curado K in the near future? 4 hours ago, Burros said: Curado k is a bit to much reel for a medium action rod might want to go medium heavy I understand that you like the reel because it castes extremely light lures and Shimano reels have always been known for that. Riazuli Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I love my Curado K with M/F Curado rod combo. I can cast lighter stuff (weightless fluke) just fine. If you want to go much lighter, a spinning rod/reel might be better suited for that. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted June 13, 2018 Super User Posted June 13, 2018 I got my oldest son a Curado K and a Dobyns Sierra 704C for his birthday. The 704C is titled a heavy fast action rod and is rated for the same weights and lines as my MH/F Daiwa Tatula, but is definitely a beefier rod with more tip for throwing heavier baits. Should you plan on throwing mostly lighter baits and weightless soft plastics and can forgo the heavier baits, I would recommend the 703C instead. Of course, the Fury line seems to be more in your price range which should have similar actions. I will also recommend the St. Croix Mojo Bass line. They're solid rods and nice and light as well. I would probably be between the M/F soft plastics rod and the MH/F rod again, deciding which range of baits would be optimal, which I believe is labeled as being for jigs for an all around type of rod. Finally, I got my 6'10" Daiwa Tatula MH/F on Amazon for around $110. I would highly recommend this rod as well, although if you are planning on throwing lures much above 3/4oz, I would go with the Dobyns 704C as they have more tip. The Tatula has a slightly better reel seat. I have no complaints with all of the above rods, it's just a matter of finding the right rod. 1 Quote
