This article states that you must wash with soapy water your fiberglass boat once a month wax it every 6 months. I've never done that to my 2 year old boat! I'm sure it's not a bad idea and recommended but I wonder how many people really do this?

Fiberglass must be given a soapy bath at least once a month.  At least once every six month’s your fiberglass hull must be waxed and polished.

I have a black boat and the sun pretty much boils the wax off it.  I wipe down my boat every other time out with a spray type product with UV protection (Lucas Slick Mist/Bass Boat Saver/Eagle One etc.). I apply a coat of wax every 3 months.

After every trip out I wipe it down with Boat Bling Hot Sauce. I will usually put a coat of Groits wax on before I store it in the winter. If I am feeling frisky then it might get a second coat of wax early to mid season.

@Frisbie385 - I had not heard of this product prior to your post after which I went on line to check it out.

Reviews were favorable so I purchased a "trial" 32 oz bottle to check it out.

My black hull is a bit of a water spot magnet - the only thing that actually cleans them off is white vinegar but that does nothing to protect the paint or prevent more spots.

Well, I've used the Hot Sauce immediately after every trip since receiving it (5 trips) all I can say is WOW !

This stuff is the real deal - and the more I use it the less spots I get - Huge Win.

Thank You for posting this.

And for others reading this - if you are a regular hull cleaner and like a clean & nice looking rig - do yourself a huge solid and check out Boat Bling Hot Sauce.  As this most effective product does contain some white vinegar, you will undoubtedly recognize that smell; but it fades quickly.

Hot Sauce is the TRUTH!  I use it every time I put back on the trailer.  Love the vinegar smell of the stuff...

I usually wash mine once a year, whether it needs it or not.  I've waxed it twice in the 10 or so years I've owned it.

I wipe down my boat every trip, no water spots. Wash and apply Restore Boat Cleaner and Polish about twice a year.

PS, will check out Boat Bling Hot Sauce.

I have to chuckle at this question. Why? Because I wash my $224 kayak after every trip and spray it with a UV protection spray at the end of the season.

I can only imagine what I would do with a boat...

I rarely use soap and water and never wax my boat.  I use Bow to Stern which is a polymer sealer.  Three coats of it and all you have to do is go over it with a damp rag then wipe it dry.  I put on a new coat of BTS every 2 or 3 months.

I don't wash mine as often as I'd like, maybe 3-4 times a year I get the power washer out and really clean it good. I wax it a couple times a year. The nasty water in our lakes and dust even on the paved roads gets them dirty fast.

It drives me CRAZY that my boat will not fit in my garage and I have to store it outside.  Add to it that it's black and absorbs a lot of heat and that when I bought it, it had been stored outside unused under a bad cover for 2 years and was absolutely full of mold and mildew.  I have remedied the mold situation for the most part but still have to chase it once in a while.  I am the same way about my truck.  When I brought it home brand new off the dealers lot, I clay barred it, sealed it, polished it and waxed it.

Everytime I come off the water, this is how my boat gets stored.

I only wash mine when it gets a bad scum line on it. I always wipe everything down with bass boat saver though. Vacuum it religiously as well.

Hit the hull with Works green bottle, and spray wax with Maguires Wash and Wax.

WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To those of you that don't clean/wax your boat, but should, doing it wrong can cause more harm than good.

As I would feel so bad to think anyone damaged their boat thru inexperience I will ( for a limited time ) offer my boat as a " practice boat " to let you hone your waxing skills on. I will even provide the wax ( and *** ) to make sure your skills are good enough to apply to your own boats.???

Thank you ~

As an amazon user (and abuser), I'm all over it.

I'll admit that it is pretty tempting to try and mix up a 'home made' version.

Just to save a little $$$

Mine gets wiped down every time I put it on the trailer after fishing to remove the scum line. I probably wash it 2-3 times a month. Keeping a good coat of wax on it helps me get away with just a wipe down, instead of that full wash job. I used to spray wax it after every trip, but have found that every other trip is enough. (I like Lucas Slick Mist) It's a 2004 Skeeter, and she still gets a lot of compliments.
