I have 2 lower end baitcasters. Both are Quantum. One has an aluminum frame, 6.4:1 ratio, more bearings (the better of the 2 reels). The Other has a graphite frame but has a 7.1:1 ratio . Currently using the graphite one, but I'm thinking the aluminum frame would be better.

The frame really doesn' t play much of a factor personally I like a higher gear ratio

I feel torque/horsepower (lower gear ratio reels 5:1 or 6:1) is more important then speed if your frog fishing heavy grass or cover and having to drag a fish out possibly buried pounds of slop.

Frame and gearing are way down the list when it comes to choosing a frogging combo. Rod and line are your biggest concerns. Use whichever reel you have the confidence in. I've been using a 6.3:1 geared reel for decades. an extra 6in. of line per handle turn isn't going to get me bit more or less and if I can't get them out of cover with that gearing, I doubt I would with the other.

Thanks. I currently have a 7' HF with 65 lb. braid on the graphite/7.1 reel.

Speed kills!

Really though, I've seen a good fisherman throw frogs with 10lb mono on a spinning setup and not have a problem and a crummy fisherman have all the "right gear" and not be able to land one. Time perfecting your craft is paramount. (Which I'm sure you know, just rambling.)

The Speed will keep your fish from going down but if it does then it doesn't really matter what reel you have.  At that point your rod is the most important part of your arsenal.  That reel ain't gonna drag any fish out of 40 lbs of muck.
