So i have 2 rod and reels 1 is a amphibian shakespeare and the other is an RF F performance series?? never heard of it myself

I fish for Pickerel and large mouth Bass mainly. I only freshwater fish.

I was wondering what is the #1 line out on the market ? spyderwire? or stren? and what kind of fishing line should i get ? as i definitely need new line since the line i have on it is old and i don't want to have a fish snap the line and be still hooked

Sorry if i sound like a jack waggon or sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about just want to get opinions or maybe a good option for line

Suffix seige is decent along with pine cx.  Depending on spinning or casting will determine what you want.  I use 6lb yhb on spinning, but braid to leader is first choice.  15 or 20 lb suffix 832 to leader is how I roll.

Screw Stren and Spyderwire. Powerpro and Sufix are where it's at, they make braided super lines that have very high strength to diameter ratio, low stretch and cast pretty far  Related image  Image result for suffix and powerpro

Line goes on the reel knowing the rods performance characteristics like power rating, recommended line test and lure weight all help to determine what line to use and we don't have a clue what to suggest based on your input.

Shakespeare makes the Anphibian in Spincast and spinning combo's, which do you have? Model number helps!

I prefer mono/co-polymer lines.....AN40, Siege, Mean Green, Elite but have used many others that work well....Trilene XL, Izorline XXX, Sunline Super Natural, Cajun Red Cast.  Hard to go wrong with PowerPro or Sufix 832 for braid.  Sufix Performance is a very good low cost braid.  I am currently trying some Fins.  Suppose to be made in USA.

BTW, Welcome to the forum.  Lots of great information to be found here.  Check out some of the articles and tackle reviews.

Welcome aboard!

I personally prefer braid over regular mono, line management

is so much easier for one thing. Fewer line twists, etc.

I also use a leader on all my reels. Spinning reels get 10 or 15

pound Power Pro, and i always tie on a leader with a uni-to-uni

leader knot. Simple knot, easy to tie with practice.

Like @new2BC4bass suggested, have a read of the articles on

the forums. Some excellent material here, you probably have

read some already.

Would you recommend using $21 braid on a $19 spin cast combo not designed for braid?

Tom

I've done it myself with spin cast reels over the years,

in fact, have a couple Abu under spin reels spooled with

braid right now for guests, family to use.

First review for the combo mentions how great it performs

with heavy braid. It really depends on what he's willing to

pay.

My concern would be braid is abrasive and can cut into metals that aren't hardened or coated to withstand the abrasion. When super braids were first introduced reels and rod guides were damaged until new guides and with hardened metals or ceramics replaced the guide rings, line rollers, level winds etc that are in direct contact with the line.

The OP may be better off spending money updating his rod and reel in lieu of high cost braid line. 8 lb Berkley Big Game for example would be appropriate.

Very true. Agree with your upgrade suggestion.

I've not used Big Game, but have XL, which I liked for

spincasting (prior to braid). But agree with possible

damage to said equipment.
