Soggy Donut Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Hey guys! I love these old-school forums and prefer them over Facebook, as I'm in my mid-30s and grew up on boards like this one. Truthfully, I didn't start seriously bass fishing until just a few years ago! I grew up in Louisiana and while I did bass fish some here and in Indiana (family is from there), I grew up fishing for saltwater fish like speckled trout and redfish. But years ago I got tired of watching a popping cork go down and discovered I was really after the "chase" and eventually discovered bass fishing as I know it today. I've fallen in love with Big Mouth, and if I had to fish ONE fish for the rest of my life it'd be America's fish. No questions asked! So I fish them here in Louisiana's marsh, not far from where reds and specks are caught, often right next to them. And while there is a LOT of bass, there are not that many big ones, because Louisiana folk love eating bass, and will keep limits every time they go out. I don't understand it, but they'd rather have a fish & mayonnaise sandwich over having bigger fish to catch. Tournaments here can be won with 10-12lb bags, though that is improving to 15lbs and the occasional 18-20. Guys will run to Venice for tournaments, and that's a long run, often requiring a refuel. So I've traveled to other places like Lakes Conroe, Okhissa, Toledo Bend and Guntersville! Loved it! I've learned so much there, but I do know that I have a tough time catching big bass (2-4lbs) here at home compared to how easily I catch speckled trout and redfish. But trout and reds are dummies compared to bass, and I'd rather grind all day for five bass than catch 100 12" trout. Anyways, I know how these forums work, so I posted an intro and hope to contribute in a meaningful way, but also to learn something from all of you guys as well. I just want to become a better basser! :D 1 Quote

I wasn't sure if you knew about these forums, I almost mentioned them to you other day on Instagram where you were making your Gunthersville posts. Anyway, welcome to the forums. Quote

Oh, I've been lurking forever. I was stagnating for a couple months because I've been working so much, so I set aside time each day to read/digest knowledge. That and I despise Facebook, much more comfortable on forums like this one. Just remember I'm not anyone special. Just a soggy donut. lol Also, thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 17, 2018 Super User Posted June 17, 2018 Hey D, welcome to the Forum from another southern Louisiana guy who fell in love with bass fishing. I am from New Orleans a grad of Fortier and LSU. I used to go with my uncles and cousins into the Biloxi Marsh, Mississippi Sound, Grand Island, Chandeleur Sound and the Gulf and fish for reds, specs, drum, sheepshead and, God forbid, trolling for shrimp. Still have the scars on my fingers from shrimping. And did we ever hate trolling for shrimp for two days in a row. I still love the Biloxi. Best redfish fishing in the world, even better than the Venice area. My uncle had a 42-foot Chris Craft he stored in Pearl River and we would tow two skiffs with Evinrude and Johnson 25 HP outboards. We would also troll from the big boat or the skiffs for baby croakers and shrimp for bait and keep them in the skiffs' live well. Every once in a while my cousin would take a skiff in to the marsh when we anchored for the night and he would fish for "green trout." I continued to fish for croakers and small redfish off the big boat. After school my cousins and I would head to Audubon Park to fish the lagoon for bream and bluegills. Welcome to the Forum. Lots of great Louisiana guys on the site and then there is Catt, the expert of Toledo Bend. Keep us posted on your adventures. Great having you with us. Quote
