bhoff Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Been hearing about the NED rig for a while now and always felt that it was just another gimmick. Took it out to a pond that is extremely pressured yesterday and caught 7 LMB in an hour or so. This thing rippppsssssssssss. 1 Quote
OCdockskipper Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Welcome to the Ned Club!! Wait until you are in a situation where you are fishing behind or in the same area as someone else and you are catching fish while they are dragging water. That really made me realize there is something about this technique that is more than it just being a small, grub type bait. Based on my experience, I would recommend looking up some of the past threads about the Ned rig on this site and pay particular attention to posts from Team9Nine and Bluebasser86. I did that accidentally and it helped me speed up the learning curve immensely. However, if you decide you want to start throwing a TRD on a 5/0 flipping hook with 30 lb test braid, your membership to the club will be revoked... ? 1 Quote
BankBasser Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Yep, I call it my "backup plan". More often than not it can save the day from being skunked. My ml/f spinning setup is always available. Quote
Looch Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 i use it as my follow up to buzz bait or whopper plopper, if I get a blowup and miss the fish, I'll throw the topwater one more time through same spot and if that dont work, grab the goose turd rig and often get that fish to hammer it on first cast. I been using neko and weightless stickbaits too but ned is the champ for me following up on topwater. Unless I think or know it was a pike, then I follow up with a daredevle spoon or zman's bucktail chatterbait . Quote
Somd Fx4 Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I haven't been fishing for long but the Ned rig is my favorite finesse bait. The few fish I have caught have all been on the Ned rig. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 11, 2018 Super User Posted June 11, 2018 Yessiree, the Ned Rig rescues another angler Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 11, 2018 Super User Posted June 11, 2018 Was a solid performer on our trip to St Clair this year. About to do an article for Yamamoto on the results. Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 11, 2018 Super User Posted June 11, 2018 I been fishing the big TRD on a 2/0 ewg, light bullet weight loosely pegged. Keeping it loosely pegged allows it to stand up perfectly it works great and it’s weedless. Just thought I’d share? 1 Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 11, 2018 Super User Posted June 11, 2018 And I forgot to mention it works. I would like to say solid 4 but I guess you could say it’s pushing 4. Quote
Russ E Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Here in eastern Kansas it is rare to not see at least one rod with a ned rig on the deck of a bass boat. I know a few fishermen that don't use any other bait. I personally only use it around 10% of the time, but there is always a ned rig ready to go for follow ups, or if the fish are not biting. Quote
Super User gim Posted June 12, 2018 Super User Posted June 12, 2018 I agree, the ned will often catch fish when other lures won't. I feel like its more of a numbers game with the ned though because all of the fish I catch on it have been smaller. I'm sure it does catch some bigger fish, but I haven't experienced that. Quote
