I was in Academy two days ago and found the clearance rack. They had a Castaway Pro Sport 7-3 Mag Bass rod marked $49. When the cashier scanned it, it read $8.98. I hurried home and put my Stealth with 30# braid on it, tied on a Noisy Flapper and went fishing. This rod casts amazingly. I hooked one fish just off the mats and had no issue getting him to shore. I'm curious, what is Mag Bass for power and how does it fall in line with M, MH, H, etc?

Mag bass is a type of taper designed by g loomis.  His rods were labeled MBR that used this taper.  Made for a lot of popular jig rods.

Don't know a thing about the rod, but WOW....nice find.  :teeth:

I had something similar happen to me at Dick's Sporting Goods Store.  A new series Mojo had a $109.95 tag on it.  Figured ok, not a great bargain but better than the full price of $130 and I had been wanting to try one out.  It rang up for $70.  I smiled all the way home. :)

Not nearly as good a deal as yours, but still nothing to sneeze at.  How about a review on the rod once you've had a chance to use it for awhile.  I never see any mention of Castaway rods.  I seem to remember some of their rods were well thought of years ago.

Well, this thing, so far, is a casting machine with a toad. I need to grab a popping frog to toss on it, but I love the thing so far. It has enough power to set the double toad hook I was using and to horse the fish over and through weeds. I'm tickled thus far.
