i drive a small hyundai elantra.

PPORnbe.jpg

it's rated at like, 750 lbs towing capacity.  and the tongue weight at 165 lbs.  i doubt if there is a boat i could tow in this weight range, correct? especially if i add motors and tackle, right?

but is there anything i could use that this car would safely transport?

Kayak or canoe on a roof rack.  Maybe a 14' Jon or V-hull on a trailer.

Don't be this guy.

I have a 14 foot semi v aluminum boat and trailer, I don't know it's exact weight but I'm sure it's under that.  I can lift the tongue easly with one hand.  I can grab it by a finder and lift the trailer with the boat still on with one hand and slide a jack stand under the axle.  So it can't be more than a few hundred pounds total. I drag it with a pontic aztek.  Launching a boat will be difficult with that car because the distance between the hitch and rear tires is so short. Your tires will be in the water well before the trailer is deep enough in the water to float the boat off.  If I go to a shallow ramp with my Aztek I have to roll the boat off the trailer and hand launch it. It's not too bad to do even by myself but easier if you have a helper.

Good advice above. Personally I'd want something that I could launch by hand for sure.  You could go the roof rack route, or small jon on a bunked trailer, or something like one of those pond hopper type plastic boats on a utility trailer.

There's no way the second picture is real.....if it is God help us all. It would solidify my post a week ago that the human race is DEvolving!

Sad to say that It is real.  One of my friends took it about 3 years ago while going by on the river.  It's a ramp about 6 miles from me on the Monongahela river.  Look closely at the Tahoe and you'll see the broken driveshaft hanging down.

You beat me to it! I was about to mention the driveshaft. Believe it or not, I've seen way worse.

Since you live in Delaware, you are not too far from the Eastern Shore of MD. There is a couple of kayak rental companies located in that area. One is run by a fishing guide that guides kayak trips. You could easily book a half or whole day of fishing with him. This would give you the opportunity to see how he rigs his gear and if you enjoy that kind of watercraft.  Living where you do you are close to lots of "ponds" or small lakes) as well as Eastern Shore Rivers.

Check out Chris Dollar.       http://cdollaroutdoors.com/index.php/kayak-fishing

He can help you figure out what you can rig on your vehicle as well.

If someone can afford a boat like that, someone can also afford a decent tow vehicle :D
