LCG Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I have the St Croix Mojo Bass 6'8 m-xf spinning rod and its very good. The avid x is even better. Not a fan of e6x. Quote

Love my tatula but the curado for the money seems like it’s in another league. Rods i have 1 e6x but never fished a mojo yet. Love the feel of the mojo and for the money it’s a great rod! Blanks on them are unreal. But I really love my e6x. Now I’ve felt a bunch e6x’s that I didn’t like, and I’d take a mojo over any day. I think in the end I’d say pick which feels more comfortable. Mine is a 6’6” medium fast spinning walleye rod and it’s awesome. I got it on sale for a great price, and it’s crazy sensitive and pulls in bass, pike, and walleye no problem. Not as good as most my others but I’m very pleased 1 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 8, 2018 Super User Posted June 8, 2018 It really is how it fishes to you. I do find in general that if you go beyond a MH for the E6X I find them too heavy and like a broom stick. My favorite E6X rod is the 843C MBR. It just a great all around rod. The E6X has a 783C MBR, I find it to be a great all around stick. You will probably find it will be good for more than just topwater. I'm a believer in the MBR series. Quote
LonnieP Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I have both rods and I like the mojo bass a lot better than the e6x. The e6x is my least favorite rod that I own. Quote
Scrapiron Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I have/had both and some of it depends which specific model you're talking about. For a top water rod- yeah, the Mojo 6'8" M XF is awesome as someone already said. I don't think bumping to the Avid X on that rod gets you much more for the price. Quote
Preytorien Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Shimano Zodias - Medium Heavy or Heavy - 6'10" Quote
slimjim1135 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I got an e6x for topwater paired with a Curado K and I love it. There's a few of the older e6x's still floating around on clearance for 25-50% off, which makes em a good deal for the price if you can pick one up. That said, if you're trying out either the e6x or Mojo's in store, see if you can mount a reel on them when you're trying them out. Neither felt particularly great to me in the store until I had a reel mounted on them to try. Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I have both rods and the E6X is a more sensitive rod. That being said, if you are using the rod for top water only I wouldn’t spend the extra money on the E6x. The mojo may have a little bit better back bone anyways and since sensitivity isn’t much of a factor here I’d go with the mojo Quote
Hulkster Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I have two E6X rods and love them. its supposed to be like the Avid blanks which are both a step up from the mojo bass line. A few things I really like about the E6X is how they are made: 1. spinning rods have up locking (not down locking) reel seats so you are not holding the lock nut which drives me crazy. 2. Baitcasting rods have the foregrip separate from the lock nut. I hate casting rods that have the foregrip and lock nut combined ( ie you twist the foregrip to secure your reel). again, I hate holding the locking mechanisms when I fish. minor things to some, but they happened to be designed the way I like spinning and casting rods to be done. Super User burrows Posted June 9, 2018 Super User Posted June 9, 2018 Not a fan of the e6x I just recently sold mine however they just recently updated these rods so they might be a good option. I have the mojo 68 jerk bait rod and it works really well for top water treble baits. Quote
Texas Rig Adam Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 Would u recommend fast or extra fast on a 6”8 medium Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 10, 2018 Super User Posted June 10, 2018 I personally can’t recommend extra fast because I don’t have an extra fast I don’t have experience with it? But I can tell you that the medium fast jerk bait rod has got a great tip for treble hook top waters, poppers and such, and can even be applicated for your 1.5 type square bills. Quote

How's the balance? I have some older IMX MBR rods and I love the MBR taper and feel. So I'm looking for something similar. Thanks! Quote
