I'm looking for your favorite 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook to use with straight braid?  I'm running 50# on a baitcaster on a MH/F rod for Texas rigs with 3/8oz tungsten pegged.

I've been using this set up for a while and all of the sudden, I've bent out 3 hooks in 2 days (on fish that are 2# if I exaggerated). Same gamakatsu EWG I had on previously that caught 25-30 fish with no issues.  I only changed it out because it was a bit dull.  Can't recall if they are superline or not...

Anyway, maybe I'm just into a bad batch, or maybe it's time for a change. What would y'all throw on that setup?

Try switching over to Owner hooks. I have never had a problem with them.

I use Gamakatsu ewg superline exclusively for braid and heavy cover applications and never had one bend. However, if I recall correctly they did have a few bad batches some time ago.

Good heads up!

Any particular model?  I see 3 or 4 on TW.  Some look as beefy as my flipping hooks

I use the owner beast hooks for swim baits & works. For lighter stuff i’ll Use the light wire with built in weights & screw locks.

Owner EGW plus. When the bass knocks the bait down the hook on the bit there is a lot more exposed hook in its mouth. Also decent gage wire and nice cutting point.

I like using the regular 3/0 gamakatsu ewg over the superline. Have never had them bend or break fishing 50# braid with a buttoned drag. I’ve heard people have problems with gama’s tho, like quite a few so obviously your mileage may very.

The ones that bent on me were brand new... Browsed some of the comments on the gama's on TW and seems like they have had a lot of issues lately. Unfortunate because I've sworn by them for a long time.

Check out the Owner Jungle hooks, I've been using them on braid and couldn't be happier. These things are tough and scary sharp

I picked up some owners dirt cheap when my local gander closed but never used them.  Dug through my stash and found them in a spare terminal box last night.  Out of original package but they look similar. Offset and gap look to be the same.  Could write my name in my fingernail with the point.  Have one tied on so I'll check back when I find some fish and beat it up.

I like the VMC "Ike approved" heavy duty EWG's, as well as the Berkley Fusion 19 superline and regular wire EWG's

Those Berkley hooks don't get enough good press. They are fantastic. The non-superline EWG's are strong enough to be fished on MH casting gear, and up to 30lb braid, yet are sharp and thin enough to be used on spinning gear and light line and not have any issues sticking fish.
