LrgMouthCatcha Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I just bought my first boat - a 2000 Pro Craft. I'm trying to figure out a way to organize and keep my rods in my rod locker without them getting tangled up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and look forward to hearing them! Thanks, Chad Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 In one of the rod lockers in my boat I have an Osprey rod organizer. It works well for 13 setups. There is also room for a few on the bottom of the locker under the 13. I had one boat that didn't have anything so I took 2 pieces of plywood and drilled holes in them with a hole saw. In one of them I put golf club tubes and attached it to the bow end of the locker. The other one I attached to the back end of the locker and used those holes for rod butts. It worked pretty good and was still in the boat when I sold it. Another option would be to use those rod socks. That way you could just dump them in. Quote
LrgMouthCatcha Posted December 16, 2007 Author Posted December 16, 2007 Thanks for the ideas.... is there anywhere on the web that I can take a look at the Osprey rod organizer? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 I really don't know where it might be found. It came standard in my Champion 206. Here is an interesting concept. http://www.customrodracks.com/pictures.html Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 I would spend the extra cash for the ones that Jig man suggested. I've seen Brian's work and it is outstanding. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 I wouldn't waste my time with the storage systems, I've heard way too many guys pulling them out and going with Stors it rod sleeves or the Stick Jackets. The biggest reason is rod tip and guide damage. http://www.storsit.com/index.html I can jam 20 rods into my locker, reach down to the bottom and pull out whichever one I want without tangle. No need to worry about guides breaking off when you try and slide them out of those fixed tubes that the rod storage systems have. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 I have been using the tubes for close to 10 years and have never had any damage to rod tips or eyes on the home made or purchased system. A bud of mine has had his boat with homemade ones since 1994 with no damage. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 i also have storsit on all of my rods and they are a huge difference maker in locker orginazation Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Are there any retail stores (i.e. Cabelas or BPS) that carries these so I can just pick them up there? Quote
Cajun1977 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 i believe the only place to get storsit is from there website storsit.com Quote
Basser52 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Cheap schedule 40 1 1/2" stuff attached to plexiglass or plywood for the rod end and previous suggestion for the butt end works good. I cap the other end for the rods so I can't push the rod tip out the other end and get it hung up when I am in a hurry and not paying attention! Quote
