Got me a new boat puller

GM and Dodge trucks weren't even involved in my decision. I've owned 3 Dodge trucks the last one purchased new in 2003 which I traded in on the Tundra. Biggest POS truck I have owned or driven to date. I swore off Dodge. Last Ford truck I owned was a 1984 Bronco with a 351. The ex got that in the divorce. I drove 3500 series vans both Chevy and Ford, as work vehicles for many many years. The Chevy's were all problematic. The Toyota was not without problems. Under the initial 3/36 warranty the bumpers were replaced twice, radio 3 times, front differential rebuilt, could have been some other stuff as well. At 80,000 new water pump, at 130k and again at 190k radiator replaced, parking brake linkage at 150k, Shocks/struts at 170k, U joints last fall, the drivers seat has been broken for years which I never did anything about, was currently having issues with a ground affecting the trailer lights and radio, and I was due for brakes again. I understand some of the repairs were just "maintenance", but I realized the Toyota kool-aid is no different than the kool-aid the Big 3 try and sell us on. Their product is not bulletproof. Honestly, the deciding factor between this truck and another Tundra was purely pricing. I had no interest in the F150. I would have had to upgrade the Tundra from the SR5 to the Limited to get the same features as the F250 XLT.

Apparently when Dodge was bought in 2014 they upgraded the trucks a lot in 2016. So I’ve been told. Now they are just Ram.

There was a major shift in Chrysler after the bailout in '09, which non of the big 3 escaped. They cut back on the number of models they built, RAM became it's own brand, and now they're partnered with Fiat/Alfa Romeo. 

Of course as a gal who has been brand loyal for 40 years I am thrilled that they are getting back to muscle. Looking forward to punching the pedal on a new Demon (had an original 71, 340 cid w/Holley 750 dbl pumper) at a "timid" 840 horse.

I'm not terribly pro, or anti, any brand.  But holy cow do the Kool-Aid drinkers slurp it up about whatever they are in love with, and you can't have a rational discussion with any of them.

 

Same with boats, motors, electronics and a host of other things.

 

I don't begrudge anyone their preferences...until they tell me what I like is junk...then it's walk-away time.

From what I've seen and read, this is true.  I know that Jeep has improved immensely, particularly in regard to power plants.  THey've been world class WRT to all wheel drive forever, but have had plenty of other issues along the road...or off it, if that's more appropriate. ?

 

I'll go back to my earlier statement: It's hard to find bad vehicles these days.

I'm a chevy guy, 2011 Silverado 1500 Z71 - soon to be pulling a brand new 2019 Lund Renegade! I too have been looking at new trucks, and the pricing on the Fords is very attractive.  I'd consider doing it but I'd get hell from the family (that owns  a GMC/Chevy dealership) that and my Z71 rides like a Cadillac ;).

 

Congrats on the new truck.. while I understand the appeal of the Tundra and they are a nice truck (esp the new ones) I still feel the best trucks are made in the good ole USA (although so is Toyota so who am I kidding? ?)

I'm a Ford guy, owned Ford and Chevy but looking for a "new" used truck. Found that pricewise I could get a 2014 Dodge for the same price as a 2011 Ford. 

 

I know a guy who's always leased new Fords and 2 years ago went to Ram because he could get the same truck for about $4-$5k less. He's had his Ram for a few years now and loves it. Said his next truck will be a Ram too.

I think you're both thinking about it, and making the right call for you...

 

That's the thing...I learned a long time ago with bird dogs...don't be breed blind.  They all have something to offer and if you open your mind, and your heart, they can all make you smile.  I'm mostly a pointing dog guy, but some of my fondest memories are of flushing dogs or retrievers doing their thing...the way they do their thing.

Same goes for being brand blind with vehicles.  Back in the 80s, 90s and probably into the early 00s...you could get a better vehicle for less money going with an import...cars in particular...but I had a couple of Isuzu Troopers that were insanely good, one of which made it past 350,000 miles, with one expensive problem: the A/C compressor went belly up at around 100K and it was an expensive fix.  Those Troopers cost around $3-$4,000 less than an Explorer or whatever GM was offering at the time in the same class...it was a no-brainer to make the choice we did.

 

Gotta make the right call for you, at the time, and ignore all the true believers and Kool-Aid drinkers.

Weathertech are one of the best. I had to get Husky for my Chevy car bc Weathertech didn't make any for it and Husky sucks.

Nice ride, and great choice, but then again I'm partial. Recently purchased a new to me tow rig myself an 2015 F150 SCAB 4x4 ECOBOOST. Yeah, Yeah a v6 in a Truck, and 2.7 v6 at that. (trust me I was in the same boat until I test drove it) that mother got some power with those twin turbos though.

Heard Fiat is getting rid of Chrysler.

 

I saw that in the news too but Fiat said no....but who knows. Only make 2 Chrysler vehicles, one being the Pacifica which is a big seller, I think the other is the 300.

Nice ride slonezp! I am a toyota truck guy as my first was a tacoma and now I currently own a '08 Tundra with over 100k on the clock. I love my tundra and if i were in the market for a new truck id probably look at a new tundra. But I do think that Ford has really stepped up their game in the last couple of years and I would definitely take a close look at a Ford as well.
