Shaky head recommendation needed

This summer I am really trying to slow my fishing down and move away from “power fishing”. I’m thinking of throwing a ribbon tail worm on a slow retrieve with a shaky head but I have no what type/size shaky head to go with. Any specific recommendations?

I am partial to the VMC Rugby heads. They are a hybrid football/round ball head. They are good around rock, and come through grass better than a true football shaped head.

 

I like 1/8th oz if it's slick calm from the bank all the way to 20 feet deep, and 3/16th if the wind gets up.

I'm curious as to why you want to use a shakey head for that presentation. IMO, you'd be better off using a football head as it would add a subtle side to side action?

As for ribbon tail worms, I only use one brand; Culprit. They offer them in various sizes and thickness along with a good variety of colors.

There are so many shaky heads out there now. Any good tackle shop will stock several brands.As ww2farmer says, vmc are good. Owner screwlock heads work well also. Recently picked up some by big bite baits, but haven't tried them yet . They look good too. With any that you try, only get top quality hooks. I like 1/8 for shallow water- 3/8 deeper. Good luck

I stock all sizes of owner ultra ball head (3/16, 1/8 and 1/16). These I use for various Elaztech plastic (TRD, big TRD, Hula stick and paddlerZ). I also stock some spot remover pro in 1/16 for other type plastic.

This year I have not thrown any of shakey head yet but will definitely need when summer heat arrive.

I’m a megastrike shakeyhead guy also. I fish them deep off shore and do better slow dragging it than shaking it.

The one by Perfection Lures it has legs on the head to make it stand up better. I jacked up a good bag in my tournament this weekend on them.

One device that is actually more intended for swimming baits, I think, and not so much for working off the bottom as in a true shakey head would be an Owner Pivot Head. There are other brands of pivot heads, too, I'm just not familiar with them. The Owners are available with either a straight shank or an EWG hook.

 

I just love that free wheeling hook action and I'd recommend using a worm that floats or at least a tail that undulates in the water.

 

For whatever reason, these also seem really snag-proof and it's a good substitute for a T-Rig, too.

Lots to choose from and a lot of personal preference.  I use Spot Stickers in 1/4 oz the most.  I like the screwlock baitkeepers for my 5" pro senkos.

+1 on Siebert Zenith.  I have probably a dozen different heads, but I usually reach for Zenith.  Comes through wood, rocks and weeds well and I get confident hooksets.
