Looking for a do all (spinnerbait, chatterbait and buzzbait rod). Doable? Currently have a Dobyns champion 736 cb glass that is recommended for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. Called Dobyns and they say it will work but the 734c being graphite will work better. Any opinions? Would graphite work better then glass for the 3 Technics I'm asking about? Is there 1 rod that will fish all better? I saw a video on u tube where A pro is saying glass for trebles, graphite for single hook. Thanks for your time.

I use a Champion 734c for all those techniques and would buy another one in a heartbeat. It works wonderfully. I bought mine off their refurbished page at a substantial discount. You might consider that if one's available. After using a magic eraser on the cork it was pretty much like new.

Thanks for your impute BankBasser. Just watched a Matt Allen spinnerbait video from 2017 where is lists his high end rod for spinner baits and chatter baits as the G Loomis GLX 894. Thoughts? Would it work for buzzbaits also? I do have 1 that is a spare as of now.

I'm not familiar with the Loomis rod so I'm of no help there.

I use the 734c for 3/8oz  + plastic and up jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits and zoom toads. If I read that correctly you have a spare GLX 894? Give it a shot. I sure would.

What could possibly make a rod good for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits but not good for buzzbaits?

The major difference between glass and graphite is weight, which means the heavier rod will be less sensitive and slower response.  For the steady retrieves of all these lures, doesn't much matter.  Lighter in the hand for graphite?  Usually.  It is possible for graphite to match the power and action of any glass rod, but it will most always have faster response due to lighter weight.  Regardless of how many tines the hook has.

We might be overthinking this a bit.

Just going off of rod manufacture recommendations. That's why I'm hear asking the people that use them.

There are plenty of rods that can nearly do every technique fairly well.  Dobyns Fury 734 for example.  No, I would not want to throw a 10xd or tiny finess worm on it, but just about everything in between.

IMO, manufacturers label their rods with techiques because they know what suckers many of us are for buying new gear.

The conspiracy theorist in me sometimes thinks the same applies to the lure ratings they put on rods as well.

The 843 Loomis used to handle those baits for me, and do a terrific job.  I still use a 7' mh/fast Loomis, just now it's one of his edge rods.  I will say I like the newer 7'3" length folks are going with these days though...

Thanks for everyone's impute. After much reading last night I decided to stick with glass for now. Found a mislabeled Dobyns Champion 735 at there online store for 170. I will use the 735 for 1/2 oz and smaller. 736 for larger stuff. If the glass don't work for me, I will purchase a 734c. Thanks again.
