mtsaz Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 HI- I want to spend about 100$ for my wifes spinning reel. she had an old old old mitchell 400 something- like from the 1960s- and it worked--and still does--but its a antique. I had a few old 1980s daiwa BGs--that I actually bought in japan- for like 20$ in USD- and they are worth a lot today- because I guess daiwa thought they would last a year or two --not 40- but they do/did. I know the new made in china BG is not the same as the old made in japan BG and has ridiculous gimmics like air spool or whatever they call it- I guess it saves like 1/4 oz of weight- who cares. But- what would you all get? For me- I am thinking of a baitrunner or a stradic ===walmart.com has a stradic (non c14) that is about 150$ for the 4000 size. What are those cheaper stradics? Thank you! Quote
Junger Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 In the $100 range, take a look at the Cabela's Verano, which looks like it's built on the Daiwa Tatula LT frame ($190 reel). https://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/fishing/reels/pc/105591780/c/105740280/sc/105742980/cabelas-verano-spin-reel/1749496.uts?slotId=6 They only have the 3000 size reel, but that should work for a lot of presentations. You can get a $100 Cabela's giftcard from Ebay for $80 as well. Lifetime warranty by Cabela's to boot. Quote

Thank you! Can't speak for the BGs or NASCIIs but I have had Daiwa spinning reels (Lexa) and they're quite nice all around. Many here love the BG. I personally use the Stradic line. Not sure the one you're referring to, but $150 is a good price. Current Stradics are the CI4+ and FK series (less $ than the CI4+). I just bought a Pflueger Supreme from @MassYak85 and it feels very solid, smooth in practice casting thus far. Is also saltwater approved, which for me is important. Quote
mtsaz Posted June 4, 2018 Author Posted June 4, 2018 Thats it- walmart.com has the NON stradic c14 (st2500HGFK) for 159 with free shipping. Here is the link- https://www.walmart.com/ip/Shimano-Stradic-ST2500HGFK-Spinning-Fishing-Reel/48667647 I don't know what the difference is- but if its a good price- and a good reel- then thats what counts. wow gotta love that cabellas giftcard for 80$. That brings their retail prices in line with discounters and their sales in line with amazon/ebay. So that 20% off is huge. I should buy 300-400 of them and get a boat for 20% off. I am not sure how happy they would me with me marching in there with 300+gift cards to buy a boat. I am joking, but thanks for letting me know about that. Quote
mtsaz Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 THE REEL AT CABELLAS IS OUT OF STOCK AND UNABLE TO BE PURCHASED AT THIS TIME---their message when you try to buy it online- and it says out of stock at the store I go to and about 5 others I checked --in other states. Quote
Matt_3479 Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Never used the daiwa spinning reels but the shimano nasci’s are awesome reels! Highly recommend them to anyone Quote

That sucks. Well if you can wait a couple weeks, Ebay will probably have a sale for Father's Day and you can get a Daiwa BG for about $70 I'd guess. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 5, 2018 Super User Posted June 5, 2018 Curious as to why you want a 4000 size reel. What rod is it going on? What line will be put on it? Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted June 5, 2018 Super User Posted June 5, 2018 The nasci doesn't really compare to the BG, in my opinion. The BG is more comparable to the Stradic, even considering the cost difference. Another one to look at is the Luvias. It's better than all the reels mentioned and I have seen the 3000H for $155 on Ebay. It sells for $350 on retail sites. Quote
PatrickKnight Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I own a BG 2500 and a Stradic FK 3000, I have also owned a Ci4+ 2500 and fished a Nasci 3000. Get the BG and don't look back. It blows the Nasci out of the water and is on par with my FK. Tywithay nailed it on the Luvias too if you can find one for a deal I have a 2500H (wish to the high heavens I had paid $155 for it) and you would need to go to a Twinpower to find something comparable from Shimano. A 4000 size Shimano is the same as a 3000 Daiwa. I would go with a 2500 Daiwa or a 3000 Shimano for just about any freshwater or inshore needs. Quote

Super User webertime Posted June 5, 2018 Super User Posted June 5, 2018 Clear a couple things up. A Daiwa 3000 is huge, 2500 or 2000 sized for bass fishing. A 4000 Shimano is not the same as a 3000. The 3000 and 2500 shimano are the same except for a deeper spool and larger knob on the 3000. BG is amazing Quote

I’ve been so happy with my nasci and my Stradic ci4+. I thought for sure the nasci was the way to go for the 100 dollar price range. I love my nasci so much a buddy got one as well and loves it. This bg must be a hell of a reel!! What’s the big difference in why the bg is so much better. Girlfriends brothers birthday is next week and I was going to get him the nasci for his birthday as he needs a spinning reel. But if the bg is that much better I’ll get that. Nice thing about shimano for us is there is a warranty and cleaning service within an 2 hours from us. so get the 2500 bg to be paired with a mojo bass 7’ medium fast? Quote
Super User webertime Posted June 6, 2018 Super User Posted June 6, 2018 BG is the spinning equivalent to the Fuego CT in my eyes. Quote

Aluminum body vs cheap plastic (no where near Ci4 or Zaion) Carbon drag vs felt drag Direct drive one piece handle Bearing in the line roller Bearing supported spool The 2500 BG would pair very well with that rod.
