So because I'm an admitted daiwa fanboy now, I've been looking at spending tons of money I don't have on reels i absolutely don't need. Specifically the Zillion, I've been having a bit of trouble trying to find any information on the HLC spool, plagued with dead end links and websites I can't read (or that are translated and make zero sense).

I know the SV spool incorporates a lighter material and heavier centrifugal shoes leading to earlier, stronger and longer brake engagement. I feel like I am at times over-braked using hard lures (but it certainly found a home on a plastics rod) and that's not really what I'm looking for.  The JDM Zillion also comes in an HLC-spooled flavor, but i can't find anything about it. Is it a lighter spool with normal brakes? A heavy spool with no brakes? A magical spool with pixie dust brakes? Any of you guys used one?

Sadly because of the short search strings Google and the forum search have come up a little short .

That's awesome, thanks! Honestly from appearances the JDM Zillion HLC looked like the same size as the CT frame but it's hard to tell if they're not side by side. That's kind of a bummer, but not a shocker. I do love the current tat ct frame. I need to hit up my local bass pro to put the wider zillion frame in my hands to see how it feels.

Here’s a photo comparing Tatula HLC, Zillion 1516, Tatula Type R, SS103, Zillion SV TW, Steez SV TW bottom photo. Right to left.

And

Top — Tatula HLC TW

Bottom — Zillion 1516 TW

Good god man, thank you! Now that I've seen that much of the collection side by side I'm shocked at how little difference in size there really is. I always thought that the steez was much smaller, not the same size as pre-CT frames. Now i think I want the Steez A, just what my wallet needs. Another hole. I'm curious about the zillion sv and steez sv... do they have that same over-braked feel that the tat SV has or is it more subtle? I don't know why it would be, but they love putting that SV spool on stuff.

One last question for you daiwa die-hards, is the difference in hand between the CT size frame and pre-CT size frame significant? It doesnt look like it would be but looks can be deceiving. The nearest place I can put a daiwa in my hands is over an hour away. I want to be armed with all the info i can muster before I make the pilgrimage to window shop ?

The Steez SV TW and Steez A is significantly smaller in size than the Zillion SV and Tatula CT/Type R/SV which all share the same frame. The Steez SV TW and Steez A /w a SV spool are the finest reels, in my opinion, daiwa has made to date.

The Zillion SV G1 spool is heads and shoulders better than the Tatula SV. Upgrade or flush the bearings on the Tatula SV and it will perform better.

The size difference between the CT and the regular Tatula , while not drastic, is noticeable.

The zillion HLC is the same frame as the OG zillion, SV103 and TD-Z. It's a more compact frame and ergonomically friendly frame size than the CT reels. The nose on the CT frames is wider and doesn't have a recessed brake dial like the HLC/TD-Z.

The HLC spool is a good heavy bait spool. Throwing your average frogs, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, etc in the 1/2oz range the HLC isn't much better than the Stock Zillion spool or the TDZ100m spool that can drop in to it. It is better though relative to the others but not something I would go chasing after. If you want a zillion , get an SV103 and put a Steez 103r+ or TDZ r+ spool in it and you'll have a casting machine.

I honestly don't know what I'm chasing after, just trying to feed the monkey. I don't have any holes to fill in my arsenal, just chasing that next level of refinement and expanding the mess on the deck. Thank you so much for the responses!

I didn’t shoot side profile of the reels above. The Steez is noticeably smaller.

The zillion HLC spool has 2 centrifugal brakes. It’s a great C rig and football jig reel. 3/4oz - 1-1/4 range.
