WRangler506 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Im going to order a Fenwick Aetos to try out. Are there any that stand out as the best models in their lineup? Im leaning towards a casting rod, maybe a 6'8" or 7' MH/F, but Im not sure how that rod compares to others ratings. I havent found any stores that carry them here. Im really curious how they compare to the St croix and Dobyns power and action. For casting rods I have an Avid X M/F, and a Champion crankbait 705 MH/Mod. Quote
WRangler506 Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 Im still considering sticking with an Elite Tech since I like my ETB spinning, but I wanted to try the Aetos if they are worth the extra $50. The ETB would likely be a 7'2" MHF. Any info on these ETBs or Aetos rods? Quote
kbeeb374 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I have 3 of the last model Aetos rods in the 7' MHF 6'8'' MHF and 6'6'' MF and i LOVE them. They balance really well and have great sensitivity. I would say they are very slightly on the stiff side of their ratings but i can't really compare to your rods. I would buy the 7'MHF with confidence though. I think it performs above its cost. 1 Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 Let's see... my 1/2" open end wrench works really well. How will the Craftsman 9/16" ratchet end wrench compare? Is it as good as an Ace Hardware 8" pliers? I know, I'm old and crotchety! 1 Quote
WRangler506 Posted June 4, 2018 Author Posted June 4, 2018 Anyone else have any opinions on these? I keep coming back to the Dobyns champion 734 C since its so highly recommended. I will likely buy this rod in the near future. Im trying to determine if the Avid M/F or Aetos M/F would be best to have in addition to the Dobyns 734C. Only other option is to get the MH/F Aetos, instead of the 734C. The St croix MH/F is to stiff for my uses. Quote

I'm primarily using it as a jig rod and i've been tossing a 3/8ths & 1/2oz jig on it with great success. It has pretty good sensitivity, but not amazing....it doesn't blow my hair back BUT it's so light and well balanced it's a joy to fish. I also 100% agree that it's a bit stff. The previous generation Aetos rods were the same way. Thus why I enjoy it as a jig stick.. I can fish bottom contact with the MH rating and have no problem wrenching fish out out of cover. It ALMOST fishes like a heavy. Quote

I cant seem to find anywhere in Michigan that stocks the Aetos series casting rods. Quote
WRangler506 Posted June 6, 2018 Author Posted June 6, 2018 Does anyone know how the Fenwick M or MH compares to the St Croix MH? Or how they compare to the Dobyns 733 or 734? Quote
