JustinJ Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I have been fishing braid on my topwater and skinny dipper rod this season. Up until this point I've really only used braid for punching and frogging...one thing I have noticed is my hands, reel, reel seat, and the cork handle become more wet and green from the dye on the braid while casting and retrieving a bait with braid versus mono. This happens most when I am constantly casting and retrieving something like a swimbait or a whopper plopper..is this due to the braid absorbing more water versus mono or fluoro? Does this happen to anyone else? I know this is a silly question but it is annoying. I am fishing 50lb power pro on a cursdo i Quote
d-camarena Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I use braid on every single rod i own. I do not have this problem. At the beginning the color does run a little but its never that bad. Or maybe i never noticed it 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 Use a braid that dosen't bleed dye like Fins. Tom 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 I use braid on all my reels, too. Fade happens with PowerPro, but IMO, not badly. My yellow PP is still in pretty good shape. Maybe try @WRB's suggestion for a non-bleeding braid... Quote
JustinJ Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 the bleeding braid doesnt bother me nearly as much as the wet hands! my hands and cork have become much more wet since switching from mono to braid on this combo. does braid absorb more water than mono or fluoro? Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 Braid is yarn and hold water unles it's treated with a coating. Tom 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 What braid and type did you purchase. I use Power Pro Spectra and Suffix 832 on many of my baitcasters and I alsways use 14 pound Berkley Original FireLine on my spinning gear ( I use a leader on that setup as well). I have never had an issue with that much water or color coming off on my gear. The line does fade a bit but I have never had it discolor anything, me or the gear. You could have purchased a bad spool or it might be the brand. Quote

tinkykunk Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Power Pro is known for bleeding. Especially with heavier tests. Just remember not to wear your Sunday best the first fishing trip after you re-spool. The wet hands thing certainly isn't fun in winter. 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 Oops I missed that one. I know PP bleeds a little but I have never had it discolor me or my gear. 1 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Yep power pro braid guy here. Constant wet hands, but I suffer through while I reel in the fish.. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 1, 2018 Super User Posted June 1, 2018 Try The Professor Braid Aid line conditioner or Fins PRT braid. Tom Quote

No... it carries more water ON and Between the fibers. Nylon monofilament line will absorb water, I don't think fluorocarbon monofilament line absorbs water either. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 1, 2018 Global Moderator Posted June 1, 2018 I've used original Power Pro (30#, 50#,65# and 80#) for years and honestly I can't remember any of them bleeding as bad as you describe. I use KVD Line and Lure on everything which must help Mike Quote
nascar2428 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Glad you asked this question, having recently started using bait casters, I wondered if the wet hand thing was because of the braid. Never noticed the water accumulation on my spinning gear{which is also spooled with braid} As far as the bleeding goes, Daiwa J8 out bleeds them all.IMO Quote

LxVE Bassin Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I have yet to have power pro bleed and I have on most of my reels. I have heard that their red braid has this issue. Quote
