dave Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Mods, move this if needed but, I figured if it is correct, it may get more play here. I was told by a friend (who also has boat), that if the gas you use in your boat has ethanol in it, using Stabil can do more harm than good. Anyone out there ever hear this? Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 8, 2007 Super User Posted December 8, 2007 I use Staybil in everything I own that takes gas. I have never had a problem with anything. Quote
George Welcome Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Quoted from their page: Is STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer safe to use in all gasolines, including gasoline/oil mixtures and ethanol blends (including gasoline with up to 10% ethanol)? Absolutely yes! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 8, 2007 Super User Posted December 8, 2007 Stabil has a new Marine Formula to preserve the ethanol blends which attract water. Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I always thought that you were not to put ethanol gas in your boat motor. Any truth to this? Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 8, 2007 Super User Posted December 8, 2007 I use Staybil in everything I own that takes gas. I have never had a problem with anything. x2 http://www.goldeagle.com/sta-bil/faqs_stabil_marine_detail.asp?product=STA-BIL%20Marine&ID=184 It does sound too good to be true but ifs its around the same price it is worth a shot. These are the 3 big reasons why people who winterize their boat have fuel system issues down the line. So if it works, it will be a better investment than good old Staybil. imo Quote
bassdocktor Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Live_2_Fish atleast as far as the motor goes Mercury says you can use the gases with up to 10%. They say not to use anything beyond that. I'll find the link and post it later. Quote
bassdocktor Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Found it quicker than I thought http://northamerica.mercurymarine.com/serviceandwarranty/outboardfaqs/ethanol.php#6 bassdocktor Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Cool, I didn't know that. Thanks Bassdocktor Quote
tntitans21399 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 As I know Staybil is the good to put in anything and is really good if your storing the equipment for a long time. I have also heard that it is ok to run your boat on ethanol gas, but I wouldn't suggest to let it sit for a long time. I heard it's not good to have ethanol gas sit for long period of times, so if you did then I would use Staybil or Seafoam type of gas treatment. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 9, 2007 Super User Posted December 9, 2007 Ethanol gas. Lots places in the country only have E-10 gasoline and it may or may be posted on the pump. I did some web searching and found these products that may be better or equal to the marine Stabil. http://www.mdramazon.com/ Quote
