rebster Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I live in Exeter, Me. & am new to this area. I would like to locate places to fish for bass & some folks to fish with. I have an 8 foot frog boat with electric motor. I am 72 years old & retired. I have all the gear anyone would ever need. I fly fish & use bait casters & spinning gear. I'm not interested in killing very many fish but that is my decision as long as others obey the laws I have no issues . Thanks to all that read my post Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 Welcome aboard! Plenty of North Easterners here, I'm sure someone will chime in to give you some suggestions. Quote
rebster Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 How good is the bass fishing in Pleasant lake in Stetson Me ? Where is the boat ramp located ? Thank you Quote
Arcs&sparks Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Hello from a fellow Mainah! There doesn’t appear to be very many of us here... out of the 2,600 ponds and lakes in Maine, I’ve unfortunately only fished a very small portion.. Your Maine Gazetteer should show boat ramps and known carry-in access. I checked the satellite image on google maps real quick and there appears to be a boat ramp at the campground(west end), you may want to check with them. I apologize if I am telling you things you already know, but you can look up most of the popular lakes and ponds my googling “pleasant pond Stetson Maine gov” for example to come up with https://www.maine.gov/ifw/docs/lake-survey-maps/penobscot/pleasant_pond.pdf keep in mind the date last revised, this is from 1997, so information can be inaccurate to present day. But this a good tool to see a general depth map, species, and other info. Quote
rebster Posted June 9, 2018 Author Posted June 9, 2018 Thank you very much . It's nice to start meeting new folks. 1 Quote
Arcs&sparks Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 That pond looks great, judging by the survey! If you have a bait and tackle shop near you, that might be your best bet to find more info on the pond and get recommendations for other good places to fish. Post an update when you find your way in! rebster Posted June 14, 2018 Author Posted June 14, 2018 There are no bait or tackle shops around Exeter ,Me that I know of. Quote
rebster Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 All the local ponds seem to have small bass. Most folks are happy to catch them & don't appear to make an effort to catch larger fish.I am told by many that bass don't grow very large here. A two pound fish is big ? Quote
Arcs&sparks Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 just Curious, where did you live prior to Exeter? A 2lb bass (on the scale) isn’t a bad fish, but wouldn’t be “big” in any state. It’s possible the lake/s in your area have too many bass resulting in poor growth rate. Or the folks you talked to just don’t fish much and/or don’t know any better. Even the smaller lakes in my area that hold a ton of stunted 12-14” fish, there are still 5+lbers to be caught if you spend the time. Have you fished yet or just chatted with people? Quote
rebster Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 I have fished a few of the local ponds but many are choked with weeds. I don't know anyone to fish with in my area. I would like to find some folks to fish with. Quote

Im not sure you are shore bound or have boat. Ive done well at a few places near you, Sebasticook Lake, Unity Pond and Plymouth Pond all hold big bass. Most of the bodies of water near you hold bass. Not to far south of you the Belgrade area has some of the best bass fishing in the state. Quote
rebster Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 . I caught a 3 pound largemouth bass yesterday & it put up quite a scrap. I know this is not large but it is a private pond with many stunted bass. The pond needs as many bass removed as possible. I'm going to set a minnow trap & see what food is available. 1 Quote
rebster Posted August 3, 2018 Author Posted August 3, 2018 After 3 days the minnow trap had nothing in it. Not good ! Quote
