TylerT123 Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Heavy Rod, Braid, Frogs, Jigs, Punching Rigs, and maybe small swimbaits Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 I would say "no thank you". oe 1 1 Quote
JackKlassen Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 if you fish northerns or plan on doing any fishing for salmon or any other big freshwater fish I'd use it for that. 4000 is just a bit large for bass fishing in my opinion. Quote
d-camarena Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 No way, sell it to me. I use 4000 reels regularly for bass. Less wind knots, less line twist and you can use most flouros without creating loops. Im actually looking for another one myself 1 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 I would put it on a Medium Heavy rod and go fishing for some Saltwater species like Fluke, Flounder and Bluefish. 4000 reel is kind of big for the freshwater finesse techniques I enjoy. 1 Quote
Dangerfield Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 My FIL uses one for his heavy lures, 168 s-waver, 50 sz spro rat, the BIG ass whopper plopper, megabass magdrafts etc. He's got his on a 6.5' or 7' St. Croix Premier Heavy. IMO, it's a big game reel, if you're fishing for northern pike or musky. Pairing the right rod is key. Quote

The bigger spool lets you use heavier line without sacrificing cast distance. I also skip lure with spinning gear and skip frogs under heavy cover. A medium heavy rod with 40lb maxcuatro works great for me Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 I've set many people up with a MH inshore spinning rod and a 4000 series reel spooled with 40# braid for froggin'. Not everyone likes or can use a casting setup. 2 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 I would go target catfish or atlantic salmon Quote
Brad in Texas Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I would highly, highly recommend everyone read this article about a competitive bass angler who uses large spinning gear, his reasons behind it, his successes, methods and so on. Brad https://www.flwfishing.com/tips/2014-04-22-going-big-with-a-spinning-rod Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 Good article. Thanks. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 30, 2018 Super User Posted May 30, 2018 I'd use it for inshore mostly, paired with a 6'6" or 7' M to MH rod. Would go MH for freshwater, heavier techniques. 1 hour ago, Brad in Texas said: I would highly, highly recommend everyone read this article about a competitive bass angler who uses large spinning gear, his reasons behind it, his successes, methods and so on. Super User burrows Posted May 31, 2018 Super User Posted May 31, 2018 I would put it on a medium heavy ugly stick striper rod. Quote
