Wurming67 Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 I'm in the market for a new trolling motor, right now I'm using a 50lb thrust Bps prowler on a Fiberking Bomber 16ft fiberglass boat that's real heavy,I fish in South Florida in the flats where it's very shallow and alot of vegetation to cut thru and the prowler just isn't cutting it no pun intended.Im looking to keep it under $1,000 and foot controlled, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Super User ww2farmer Posted May 28, 2018 Super User Posted May 28, 2018 For under $1000, fishing in heavy vegetation, and going on a 16' boat, I would look at a 70lb 24v 42" shaft Minn Kota Maxxum w/variable speed controls NOT the 5 speed. I have one on my 16' Aluminum bass boat, and it's overkill, but that's a good thing. I have several buddies that have the same motor on 17' glass boats and they work great on those too. The Maxxum, and for that matter the Fortrex, are not the "latest and greatest" trolling motors anymore, but they are solid, dependable, no frills, work horses. 1 Quote

Thanks for the info I really appreciate it,I was in the flats today wind was howling and the current was flowing hard I could barely get around with that prowler it's time to upgrade. Quote

Wurming67 Posted May 29, 2018 Author Posted May 29, 2018 Is it possible to get a 70 lb thrust hand trolling motor the reason I ask I might have a problem mounting the one with foot control it's old bass boat design runs great though Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 29, 2018 Super User Posted May 29, 2018 Was just looking at those myself. Cabela's has big hand controlled from Minnkota and Motorguide. I settled for a 50 Endurance Max just to keep it at 12v. 1 Quote

Super User Further North Posted May 29, 2018 Super User Posted May 29, 2018 Regardless of which motor you choose, put a Ninja Grass Blade (or equivalent) on it. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Ninja_Grass_Blade/descpage-NINJAGB.html Here's a topic on Bass Rescource with some details on my experience with it: 1 Quote
