Follow that with the same amateur video instructional guys (sic) who have to spend the first 5 minutes of a 12 minute instructional/demonstration video talking about why they decided to make the video explaining whatever it is (inevitably it is always because they have seen so much misinformation on the subject they felt compelled, as self appointed experts, to correct this situation) then go on to talk about everything related to the topic, all the "wrong" stuff they have heard or watched (not that they are bashing other people, but they just want to make sure we know that they know that we understand they know more than the next guy about said topic) and yada yada. Tips if you are going to make you tube videos demonstrating or explaining something. 1-don't bore us, get to the chorus. 2-Dont introduce yourself, we already know or really could care less who you are, we are just interested in the topic. 3-Get straight to the meat of what you want to present in 15 seconds or less. 4-Explain it clearly with as few words as possible. 5-Learn to EDIT your videos. 6-If you watch it yourself and think its too long, it is 50 times longer than it needs to be. 7-Don't "thank us for watching" or remind us to keep our eyes open and subscribe for future offerings. If we like what you did, got something out of it or learned something without being driven to want to throw the computer/ipad/iphone/etc at the wall, then we'll remember you and be back-because the majority of what is out there is garbage to begin with. So, guys, thanks for taking the time to read this post, and please guys, subscribe to my user profile to view my future offerings. Hey guys, this post was done while on vacation on a beach in Florida while its raining and blowing outside, and guys, it was on a MacBook Pro using High Sierra, facing the beach view out the window just after eating breakfast. Until next time, guys, have a great time fishing and guys, tight lines.... (and for the record, if you watch Glenn's videos, he gets the right balance of "informal familiarity" with delivering stuff in a useful, concise manner. He should do youtube videos telling these other youtubers how to do it right. I dont want anyone thinking that just because he uses the term "guys" in his presentations this was directed at him, this is not a backhanded slam of his videos at all.) I'm now on the laptop because that post was so long and uninformative, I threw my phone at the wall. Thanks guy. 1 7 Quote

Super User geo g Posted May 27, 2018 Super User Posted May 27, 2018 While fishing a bank or a canal, I hate it when someone will motor just past you and then shut down and fish the same direction as you, cutting off your clean water. I just keep fishing, and then go Ike on every fish caught. I make it seem like a monster was caught on each catch. I keep this up until they move off, or they think there is a nut case fishing behind them. 1 Quote

Or, “welcome to Walmart, would yous like a cart?” I’m not the smartest, or perfect in any way with speech and grammar, but come on! Also, bad boat ramp etiquette is THE WORST pet peeve when it comes to fishing related activity. Quote
WCWV Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 When a fellow comes tearing into the ramp like his #$$ is on fire just to be the next in the water. Happened to my wife and I awhile back while we were in the staging area getting our boat ready. I think he needed to get up earlier ?? 1 Quote
YaknBassn Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 1. Lake Guntersville is one giant pet peeve. I love the lake, I really do, but some of the people who fish it are just nuts. If you're seen landing a bass, there's suddenly three boats within a 100 yards of you. At the least, one is going to troll by and waypoint the spot. 2. People who fish IN the ramp. This is an issue with less popular launches. Fishing from the dock is one thing, but don't set your chairs up and stroll your tackle all over the ramp then get pissy when someone needs to use the ramp. 3. This is a kayak issue. When boats come by on plane, then quickly throttle down when they come by. I'd rather you stay on plane and go. Even in a kayak, I'm aware of where the channel is and stay clear. 4. Pleasure boaters and jet skis. Quote
Ruy Lopez Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Noisy, guitar-thrashing intros to fishing shows on tv or YouTube fishing videos.....yes I’m getting old. 2 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted May 28, 2018 Super User Posted May 28, 2018 There was a time that all the above ticked me off, and occasionally they still do, but these are first world problems and not worth raising my blood pressure......Heck at some point, I probably did most of the above. Selfisness, and ingratitude can get my knickers in a twist .......and as @A-Jay said, incurable diseases 5 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 28, 2018 Super User Posted May 28, 2018 Another pet peeve of mine is pets... the trails around me that are good for bank fishing are also good for people to walk their dogs. I can’t tell you how many people do not have their pets on a leash and have no control of them. They run up, jump on me or sniff at my tackle bag. I am worried they are going to get a face full of hooks. I have had a dog jump in my car with his muddy paws before his owner could get control. When I got mad he said what’s the matter don’t you like dogs? I told him I love dogs it’s their owners I have a problem with. 4 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 28, 2018 Super User Posted May 28, 2018 People yelling at me when I'm fishing and expecting me to answer. I'M FISHING, DUDE!!! I try to use sign language. This happens to me when I fish a friend's pond. He'll yell at me from his house asking questions. I can't be rude because he lets me fish there. But he demands silence while we ride his golf cart around the property checking hog traps and hoping to sneak up one some to kill. Well, it's his place. And he'll routinely drive down to the pond and toss me a beer while I paddle the kayak around. Bassboats with out of state numbers that feel the need to fish ahead of you or between you and your target or fish their way into a cove then blast all the way out of it past everyone. or motor around you using their electronics. Other humans in general 3 Quote

Had the "ramp monster" thing happen to me just this weekend, that was after they tried to mow me over in my little bitty 10' kayak...and oh yah I was on the ramp first to boot! As for the latter, I take pics of their plates/vehicle and send them to the cops...especially when I need one of those spaces and there are none to be had. Quote

cheezyridr Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 another pet peeve of mine: when it's been raining every day for 3 weeks, and the first day without rain you can't decide if you want to go ride your brand new motorcycle, or use your brand new fishing rod. so you compromise, and get on your motorcycle to scout new possible locations. then you get 40 miles from home, and the bolts holding your right side saddlebag break and you have to hide it in the weeds along the hiway, ride home hoping the other bag doesn't fall off, get in the car, drive back and get your bag. then you call the manufacturer, and they act like it's not their problem, even though the bags are brand new, and were empty when the bolts broke. i HATE when that happens 1 Quote

Often times I only need to direct their attention to the giant sign at the ramp which usually spells it all out rather well. Also pointing out the location and purpose of the designated "Staging Area" can be helpful. Of course, all this goes right out the window when I'm on the water waiting to pull the boat while Scuppy McScupperson is trying to figure out where he put the boat plug. Then I have to really work very hard to resist what seems like a very instinctual urge to yell "C'Mon Man !" I'll admit to have failing a few times. A-Jay Or at a major tournament with 300 plus boats, all of us who are picking up others in the basin lined up for the ramp. It’s a one way in and out parking lot ramp area. Then two get their boats loaded proceed part way around the lot then stop to put away their gear. That left two trucks with boats on trailers still stuck half way up the ramp and a line of us still waiting. Really??? I politely ask them if they could please move so we can load up our people too. Yeah, even my husband saw me get out of the truck while in the basin and said... “ oh, she getting ready to chew on someone”?. The other was letting dead bass get weighed for big bass prize money. I lost by .02 ounces to two dead bass and $2,000.00. 1st place was the $2,000 and second big bass was $500.00. Mine was 8.29 pounds and I kept her alive all day during a hot June tournament, I came in 3rd big bass. $0.00. It wasn’t specific in the rules but oh well. A lot of guys congratulated me on catching her and keeping her alive, they thought I should have won it, but the respect I got also was worth a lot to me. 3 Quote
