I'm fishing a (3 - 4 acre) pond now that's about 2 - 3 feet deep on one half of it, and 6 - 7 feet deep on the other side. (I measured it from my kayak) During mid-day in mid-summer, which side would be better to fish? The shallow side has more shoreline cover, but it's pretty murky water so I can't see what the cover on the bottom is like, although I'm pretty sure it's mostly mud and leaves. Thanks in advance.

If you have time to map the bottom, cover the whole thing ?

From the info provided, I would also become familiar with where the drop off occurs.  It doesn't have to be significant in a pond that size to hold fish.  Any ambush point is where I would target.  The transition from dirty to clean water can also be productive, similar to a grass line.  If your in a kayak, you have the advantage of working these areas from several angles.

Mid-day summer time, I assume the water temps will be higher so much like we would, look for shaded or areas where water is feeding into the pond.  Also, chances are if you find the bluegill, the bass won't be far behind.

Hope that helps!

Shallow murky water mid summer sounds like my dream scenario. For me I like to start shallow and then stay shallow. If the waters 'clean' enough pound it with a buzzbait of its weedy a toad or frog.

Thanks. I've heard that they go deep to get away from the sun. Is that true?

If the bottom is just mud and leaves, I would stick to the bank and "ledges". Tbh 6-7 is really shallow, even for a pond.

Well there isn't really any deep water just shallow and real shallow. But they will get under or next to anything when the sun is high. So I would go where the cover is. One thing I find in small shallow ponds is that there are more bass than quality holding areas/cover  so they can be on anything anywhere

I would wager you see a lot of baitfish in the parts you can see anything in the real shallow areas, so if I'm correct then that would be a good morning or dusk spot.

Now in the middle of a hot summer's day, those bass are going to seek any shaded areas they can find, and those who cant find cover will be around the pond, but Id start sith the deeper areas once you've exhausted all cover.
