I'm yet to even get a blow-up on them, albeit I can't walk a frog whatsoever lol. I may accidentally walk it a few times but can't repeat it. Poppers on the other hand I can walk... yeah I don't know either. I had a low percentage of hits with regular hollow body frogs too. Take one and add a paddle tail to it, I bet your bite ratio goes way up! What do you got to lose! Good luck! Quote

I think it's more of an area problem... topwaters work sometimes, but I pretty much fish very pressured areas like public ponds and lakes. Also I'm stuck to the bank. If I could get out in real water on a boat and find some nice sloppy goodness then it might be a different story! But it might be fun to add a a paddletail to my poppin pad crasher. Then it'd be a poppin pad plopper! Quote

Bigbruce Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Was making a TW order and decided to add everything to make some plopper frogs. I have spro, scum, h20, and KVD frogs. May try to experiment with them first before I get a booyah. Had one before and it got broke off. Quote

None consistently worked but the Booyah did. Quote
Bigbruce Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 Tried my homemade plopping frog this morning and felt the tail didn’t kick unless I was bringing it in pretty fast. Am I supposed to burn this thing across pads to get the commotion I want? Quote

Looch Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 never thought of just buying a teckel frog tail for making a homemade one. I tried making one last year and used mostly paddletails cut off plastics and while it caught fish, it didn't spin and have same action. Quote

That should work, what line do you use, I use #30lbs. Power Pro Braid. Quote

Yea it’s a pad crasher and I’m using 40 lb power pro. Everything seems right, just the tail seems to trail behind and not pop. Quote

Maybe try another tail? Quote
pauldconyers Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 My only hesitancy with this style frog is just the potential to so easily gather grass and moss on it. With that big moving part on the back or adding swivels and such to the back of a regular frog it just seems like you are just begging to make a somewhat weed less bait a magnet for riff raff. For those with experience yes or no? Quote

For those with experience yes or no? I’m not a fan of these frogs tbh but they are weedless. Swivels behind the body and small. ?♂️ my issue is they just don’t “plop” that well. Neither do savage gear frog plopper trailers. I get better action adding a rage Shad tail. Or just use a rage Shad. LOL Quote

For those with experience yes or no? Haven't had any trouble with snagging weeds. Did realize that a straight retrieve is the best way to use these, just like the WP. That's why I think the WP and Homemade Sprinker Teckel Frog are two of the best topwater lures out there, simply cast and reel in, that's all you need to do. Also, a lot of fish bite it if you just let it sit on the initial splashdown. Quote

Joshua Vandamm Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Teckel doesn’t even plop. It wags. LOL I don’t know why people call it a weedless plopper. It’s not. BUT... cut the tail off a rage shad and replace that dumb boot. Plops loud. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 17, 2019 Global Moderator Posted September 17, 2019 I lost the original tail and substituted the tail of a big bite baits cane thumper, they both worked Quote

txchaser Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 So I have a bone and a black sprinker frog. Fished them reasonably often and mostly just got the occassional half-assed swipe. Tried the booyah tail frogs, same difference. I didn't see what all the big deal was on these, so I just used toads in that application; they would get strikes in the same color and same retrieve speed. And then the weight fell out of the bone sprinker. For some reason it irritated me so much I remembered this thread, ordered the stuff, and made a homemade one. Fished it twice now, it catches fish! So many today that I have to retire the first one. Tail is still fine, but after a 30 frog fish run today, the frog itself looks like the dog got ahold of it. My most epic topwater day ever was thanks to this homemade frog. Works well in open water with weeds, it was calling fish out that the buzzbait and a WP wouldn't pull. Thanks @TC Bass Quote
r83srock Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I remember seeing this post. Tried the toad runner when it came out with very poor hookups. Love the idea of the lure, but i never seen much success with it. Seeing this is pushing me to try the homemade version, which I wanted to try a year ago and never did. ??♂️ Glad it worked well for you! Quote
