I was watching an old bass resource you tube video I do that sometimes and glen was talking to a zman rep about the three inch pop Shad... not a new bait but one I’ve always thought was such a great idea but they never really got much attention I was wondering why? And if it would be worth ordering a pack or two?

I recently ordered a pack of 3 inch...they are fat and not as finesse as I was hoping for.  They pop but doing so causes them to dip under the surface a good bit.  Doubt I use them again when I can use a spro baby popper

I have a pack of three that I got to try out this year but have not been in the area to use them.  Going on a tourney to reel foot on Sunday and plan to give them a try.  Lots of vegetation on that lake so I think they may get used.

Action wasn't that great to me, caught a baby gator on one and it was still perfectly fine after so they are durable just not for me

That’s what I was feeling. Good concept great idea but they need to perfect it work out the kinks, I’m skipping on this order I don’t need more useless soft plastics.

So I tried this lure out today and initial indications are good but my setup was bad.  Wrong hook or wrong rod.  I used a dobyns 743dx with 30 lb braid on an sv-103 with a 4/0 ewg gammy.  The rod is to slow and moderate I feel, and I thought the braid would make it good.  I will swap out to a 70mhf st Croix legend with all other things the same and see if that does the trick.  I got 4 bites fairly quickly and tried to set the hook.  Never connected and the lure just kept flying back at me.  Worked well on bass busting bait right on shore and rigged weedless it's nice like a frog because you just throw it in there and go.  I did land a few after I swapped to my popper with st-41 trebles.  Nothing escapes that lure.

From Z-Man's website.

  • Rig weedless with a heavy wire 4/0 or 5/0 offset EWG style hook.

So, it appears maybe it could be your rod setup. Or maybe try the 5/0/ I got a few packs of these (both sizes) but have yet to use them.

Yeah not fond of that rod and what I plan to change.
