Claymt Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Theres a small creek behind my house that is completely unpressured. I usually just catch smaller bass. However, yesterday I saw a huge bass (8-9 lb.) near the bank. It was sluggish and not scared at all. I would throw something in front of it and it would just turn the other direction. I tried almost every kind of bait in my tackle box. There was just a short rain, so that may have had something to do with it as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Did you ask the bass nicely to bite? I've found that actively talking to the fish while I'm fishing increases my chances exponentially. Some big girls like for you to talk a little mean to them, so try that if the first approach doesn't work. Seriously : don't cast right in front of the fish. You probably scared her. Remember, 10' away from your target, it works for structure and it works for sight fishing. 2 Quote

Crunching leaves and breaking sticks, Talking loud or your music on your phone... I approach the bank as if I'm walking in the woods deer hunting. Slowly rolling my boots over the ground being as quiet as possible. If you can see them they can see you. I know situations like that are exciting but the best thing to do is back away, and cast to it from a distance after you've gave it a little bit. You could always do what the world record bass holder did.. catch her with a bluegill. Just sayin. 3 Quote

One must be very quiet when bass fishing from the bank, especially if they are trying to catch a big bass from a highly pressured body of water. Bluegills are good bait but there are many times the big bass won't go for them so its best to try different techniques and consider fishing at night which is something many bass fisherman do not do( with lures few people use in the area you are fishing in). 1 Quote

I tried really hard to get a big crusier to bite last month until I got a better look at it and saw the rounded tail and sad, lookdown face ending in rubbery lips. In the stained water with the glare that big drum looked a lot like a big slow moving bass though. 1 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 All I know, and this is a fact... The more expensive your rod, reel and lure are the number, and size of the fish you catch will increase. Seriously though, it sounds like she was probably in a phase of the spawn where they offer only a small window to be caught. And if you do, please put her back asap. Once she locks on the bed you will have a better chance to get her agitated and with some patience and persistence, she might bite. Good luck! Quote
