I mean the solid body ones, not the ribbed ones. Can anyone point me in the direction of a fat body 9 or 10 inch ribbontail worm to try? I rig weightless in the shallows and a 1/32 nose weight in deeper water (6 to 10 feet deep). I prefer salty worms, not scented worms. Scented never did anything for me. Thnx. jj Quote

IgotWood Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I've do better with other worms, but if I specifically wanted a salted worm, I'd go with Don Iovino Curly Snake worms. I believe they are 9". They have a rather thin profile in contrast with most other baits, which I prefer for fishing the grass. They move like hell, and they are super salty. They are quite durable too. I do well with this bait. Quote

It actually has a function. It adds density to the plastic, altering the sink rate. Plastisol alone floats. You can ask any bait maker, and they'll tell you the same. Quote

May have been purely ad copy marketing....but companies advertise that as a selling point...the fish holding longer part. Roboworm even has it still right on their website. My guess is that salt was added to adjust buoyancy and the sticking together part, but someone in marketing somewhere decided that they'd sell more if they could convince fishermen of one more edge Quote

They also float to the top after the salt dissolves. I guess I don't pay attention to all the marketing. 1 Quote

I've thrown Gene Larew for years simply because they are salt impregnated. In my observations the bass hold on longer & the salt adds weight which helps when using lighter presentations. Quote

This AM I went to a local store and got one pkg red shad, one pkg watermelon. This PM I caught bass ..... but only on the red. That's the way it's been for 2 years now. I go fishing with 2 friends, and they catch bass off browns or dk greens or lt greens. I catch fish off dk reds. Oh, well. A fish is a fish. Thanks, Choporoz! Ain't this place great? jj 3 Quote
