jbmaine Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Reading all these posts about skin cancer got me to thinking about better protection from the sun. I can't stand anything tight across my face or neck so a boony type hat and sun screen have been my go to. Problem is I always seem to miss a couple of spots and have been burned my ears and back of my neck more than once. The wife and I were out shopping over the weekend and came across these Sun Guide Caps, and bought a couple. We tried them out today and although they look dorky as all get out ( looks like I have beagle ears ) they were very lite weight and totally covered my neck and ears. You can also snap a front flap to cover the front of your neck. Here's a pic from todays trip. Try not to laugh too hard. 8 Quote

Doesn't look nearly as bad as the tape and gauze that will be attached to you after removal of suspected cancerous items. Any hat/buff/shirt/pants/etc. you are willing to wear to protect your skin is acceptable in my eyes. 3 Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted May 22, 2018 Super User Posted May 22, 2018 ^^^I totally agree with what was said above.^^^ Quote
tander Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 You are wearing the right stuff, skin cancer is no fun. This is my hat. Quote
Yakalong Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I have always worn a ball cap and a couple of weeks ago purchased something similar on amazon. I am anti-sun and would rather not look "in fashion" than have skin cancer. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 I had melanoma removed 1 year ago. I protect myself. I don't care what it looks like or what someone thinks about it. While you're at it, get the microfiber long sleeve Henley shirts. They cover your lower arms and even the back of your hand. The salesmen said they were cool in hot weather, cooler than loose cotton. I thought they were full of BS, but my son got me to try them. I love them. They evaporate the sweat, and I stay comfortable. Great way to protect myself from the sun. jj Quote
jbmaine Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 Thanks everyone. Guess looking funny isn't so bad. We picked up some loose, lite, pants and shirts also for when it's too hot for jeans and flannel. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 Protecting your head/neck is #1 priority. The fact that the hat makes you look like The Iron Sheik is just icing on the cake IMO! Quote
Beetlebz Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I'm more upset that you aren't long-arming that bass ? I go out in a baseball cap, huk ice gaiter and aegend sleeves. I hear people laugh, don't care. I feel so much better after a day in the sun, they probably go home and nap. I win. Quote

I'll let you in on a secret. If you look at the pic of me real close you'll notice my pinky finger isn't quite rite. Had an accident many years ago. Sliced thru the tendons on my left hand. They re spliced them but the last two fingers didn't quite take, so not that much strength in my left hand. And of course I'm left handed. Last time I tried to long- arm a bass I dropped the poor thing. 1 Quote
