Super User Cgolf Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 The best I can say is I have encountered bites where once the scent wore off the bites stopped, or my fellow angler who went hitless for an hour boated a fish within 5 casts of putting scent on the same bait he had been using. I use liquid mayhem instead of megastrike, but feel gel scents are the way to go. I get it that some don’t believe, it just leaves more fish for me:) scents are garlic craw, or shad. 1 Quote

So far I just end up with a reddish-pinkish hue in the crevices between the side of my finger nails and skin. Very greasy too 1 Quote

I use Spike it dips/dyes, and the pens too, but consider them a color only treatment. Baits that get spike it, still get either the megastrike or power bait stuff. I have tried JJ's, but it is too messy, the garlic stench is too strong for me, that, along with it's special handling needs, exploding/leaking bottles, and price keep me firmly away from it. Quote
zeth Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 all of the above. i also like to make my own i take pure beeswax and melt it down and mix with coconut butter and add pure garlic oil to it or anise. then i pour it into what is basically a large lipstick tube maybe the width of a quarter. then i have a stick of it and just push it out from the bottom as i use it. works well i think. the garlic smells horrible. the beeswax helps it stay on the bait a little longer. Arcs&sparks Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I Absolutely LOVE the red Spike-it garlic dye. I’ve actually never used it, my buddy does, and always gets it all over himself and his gear so it never fails to make for a hilarious trip out on the water. Part of me craves a spaghetti dinner and the other part wants to throw up. Seriously though, (while trout fishing at least), I’ve had times throwing Berkeley Gulp minnows where everyone else is throwing live worms and outfishing them at least 5-1 and Even 5-0. Is it the Scent or matching the hatch? No clue, but I never waste money on worms anymore. With that said, I do sometimes dip my soft plastic bass baits in the Gulp baitfish juice. Quote

Very greasy too The red is being phased out as stocks are replenished. The only colors now will be the natural colors of the ingredients. 1 Quote

Okay this sounds like something I would try , simple and easy to apply. Does the wax melt in warmer temperatures ? Quote
