BassKicker42 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Really interested in these rods but can’t decide between the promise 73 or hammer 73.....I would be throwing 1/2 oz jigs mostly around docks and some grass, but nothing like really heavy cover. Thoughts?? Quote
grub_man Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I would probably go with the Promise. I know the early Hydra blanks that Alex used were slightly more powerful than I expected for their ratings. Quote
BassKicker42 Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Thanks for the insight!! These rods sure do get a lot of great reviews!! Do you know about the warranty?? Quote
grub_man Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I do not, but Alex is a good guy, and I am sure he handles warranty claims well. I can't imagine him doing business any other way. He has grown his business from a regional rod builder to importer of Kigan guides, to developing Hydra blanks, to getting his 'production' rods out there over the course of about 10 years. I suspect he will become a significant player in the industry as time goes on. Quote
BassKicker42 Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Sounds like someone I want to have my business to. Quote
LionHeart Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I called Alex because I was trying to decide the exact same thing. If you live near a Cabelas, go and handle them both. Oddly enough, they are $20 cheaper at Cabelas and always have been. Alex recommended I go with the Promise. Seemed like a great dude and honestly interested in helping me decide. I still haven't pulled the trigger. Quote
BassKicker42 Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 They are out of stock at my Cabela’s unfortunately, but I think I’ll give Alex a call....sounds like a great guy. Quote
RyneB Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 I love my Promise. I use it for jig and t rigs. I use it as my precision flipper when i need to make pinpoint casts. I have it rigged with a Abu ALX reel and 30lb power pro. Match made in heaven. I own 4 Zolos and a Ikos Promise, and the Ikos promise is arguably my favorite rod to fish with. Quote
BassKicker42 Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 Yea that’s where I’m leaning.....what are your thoughts on the IKOS line? Quote

Quarry Man Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 I "Promise" that you will love whichever rod you buy from ALX! Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 3, 2018 Super User Posted June 3, 2018 Lamiglas suggested ALX to me when I wanted a new set of custom rods from them, they stopped making customs and Alex had there top end rod blanks. That was 5 years ago and Alex made my current of rods using NG+ blanks and they are excellent rods. ALX is the US distributor for Kigan guides. Call Alex he may have exactly what you looking at a discount. My warranty is lifetime, can't top that, look at his site for warranty info, differs for different rods. Tom Quote
