Super User J Francho Posted May 22, 2018 Super User Posted May 22, 2018 You got it up there. I use https://postimages.org/ And paste the the direct link in the reply box here. That definitely looks like a spawning fish. Nice one, too. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 It's an evil larg mouth spawned from Hades! Be careful. I used to see fish way more beaten up than that one-bleeding even. Now that I mostly fish private waters I see way fewer beaten up bass. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 Male bass, during the spring, will often get red fins and tails . Even the dorsal , pelvis and pectoral fins turn red , not bleeding . I think its a way to attract females to the nest . A lot of species do this . I recently caught several males with red fins . All about da bass Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 If they aren't spawning it can be from laying on clay bottom in the summer or winter time, did you keep the fish? Quote
BubbaBassin’ Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Most likely spawning, the males actually use there fins and tails to keep the debris out of the nest and to clear out an area of a potential nest. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted June 8, 2018 Super User Posted June 8, 2018 Its a natural occurrence in the spring . Dorsal , pelvic , pectorals will all turn red . Yes ,fanning the nest rubs the tail raw but not the dorsals and others .Its a mating thing . Quote
Shelboy Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 I have a pic of a bass I caught that was a brown tint with bright red fins 1 Quote
E-rude dude Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 Throw a red/orange colored lipless crank bait. When the fins turn orange. Or a Texas rigged dark colored salamander bait. ? Quote
