brgbassmaster Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Video added of my daughter falling in lake havasu. This could have gone way worse if she wasnt wearing one. 9 Quote
Fishing_FF Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 It is because of this type of scenario that I always make my boys where a life vest. There are a couple floating docks that we fish because they are loaded with bluegill and other sunfish. There are no railings on these floating docks, and all it takes is once misstep before they are in the drink. Glad your daughter is okay and thanks for posting this video! 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 22, 2018 Super User Posted May 22, 2018 Forgive me for being blunt but, jacket or no jacket, a kid that young has no business being on the front deck of a bass boat. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 22, 2018 Super User Posted May 22, 2018 Wow! That was a close one. Glad everyone is OK. Not only do I make sure kids wear life vests, but they must be able to swim to go out with me on my bass boat. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 22, 2018 Super User Posted May 22, 2018 I said it in the last thread and it bears repeating. Mom is a pro, she never dropped her rod. Glad everyone is Ok. Quote

To each their own lol it's all good being blunt I don't take offense. My dad used to carry me on his shoulders down bear infested rivers at 3 years old in Alaska. I lived to tell about it. Catching trout. She has been in the front deck since she could walk lol. 11 hours ago, Sam said: Wow! That was a close one. Glad everyone is OK. No pro but she is fine with a vest. Dad instinct kicked in lol 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 23, 2018 Global Moderator Posted May 23, 2018 Glad she was alright. Hopefully it doesn't scare her from wanting to be in the boat and fish with you. I've always let my oldest in the front with me. Personally would rather him be close to me so if he does fall I can reach him faster. He's almost fallen out a few times, I'm sure he'll probably do it eventually but he wears a lifejacket 100% of the time so I'll end up with a similar video out of the deal I'd guess. 3 Quote
RSmall Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Glad you insist she wears her PFD at all times on the boar and that she's okay. I must say she's quite the caster for her age! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 23, 2018 Super User Posted May 23, 2018 It's the law, it's not about insisting, or taking advice, or safety first. It is the law. The US Coast Guard mandates that any child in a boat that's under way, wear a PFD. Some states go even further. Under way, means not moored. Drifting, trolling motor...same as under way. 2 Quote

Unless you are fishing jagged tipped stumps or have aligators chomping nearby, not sure i see the concern. Have 4 kids of my own. Think it is awesome you are willing to do that with your girl. That girl will NOT take a back seat in life 1 Quote
