Thanks!!! Don't overthink it. A 6ft M would be great for a lot of different techniques including soft plastics with wacky, Texas, Mojo, Jika, smaller jigs, cranks. It's a loaded tool. As for the reel, IMO, a tad on the large side for bass fishing, and I don't go over 15# for bass, but you'll be plenty fine with 20. 2500 is generally regarded as the standard size for bass, but I say "generally" since there is no true standard. Some use 4000 size, I like 1000 size. So the "IMO" is my opinion. It's a fine reel, and I bought one for one of my sons this past Xmas. He uses it in fresh and salt. So good to go for ya. 1 Quote

Thanks for replying!Funny thing is when I was looking at the reel I thought it was too small lol I was looking at 35 ,feels reel good with that sellus can't wait to try it out hopefully Monday if this weather cooperates,on a side note I had a sellus on a casting rod and that reel seat was terrible I got rid of it,the spinning rod reel seat is fine. And funny you should mention how small it felt. It does seem that these reels are getting smaller than they used to be at a, say, 3000 size. They are basically a 2500 with a deeper spool, up from there it's larger size altogether, albeit smaller than what I remember. At least for some brands. Really it's a very fine reel, I think you'll enjoy using it. I know my son does and he's caught a lot in fresh and salt with his. 1 Quote
Wurming67 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Posted May 20, 2018 Thanks!I had the Sedona on that rod it was a combo my wife got me a few years ago and had nothing but problems with that reel and gave it away so I figured I would use the rod with another reel. Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 20, 2018 Super User Posted May 20, 2018 Those Sellus Rods are usually designed for a specific style of fishing. Look at the butt cap and there should be a picture of the style of fishing it was designed for. I have a dropshot version and a jig and worm version. Love these rods. Great value for the money. 1 Quote
Wurming67 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Posted May 20, 2018 One I have says jig n worm I was even thinking of using it to buzz a uvibe worm across the top of grass and pads maybe with a 1/16 oz weight it or totally weightless. 1 Quote

Lightest and most sensitive rod I've come across for $50, lighting rods are nice but nowhere near as light and Sensitive as the Sellus IMO. 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 25, 2018 Super User Posted May 25, 2018 Wurming67 , I fish 2 older quarry lakes that have very clear water. I've got one spinning setup a lot like yours. Its good for any finesse plastics, smaller cranks and topwaters.Mine has caught me a lot of bass. I started using spinning tackle in these clear lakes, because I needed to downsize a little . With bigger topwaters, buzzbaits , etc I use a med heavy casting rod. I'm sure it will work for you. Good luck. 1 Quote

I fish just the opposite very stained and alot of vegetation but it's been alot of fun using that light spinning setup with light line, using small top water baits makes it alot more challenging than reeling them in with steel ? I caught a 6lber on that light setup using a pop r ,he headed right into.the thick vegetation had to play him very carefully it was very exciting got the old heart racing. 1 Quote
Brad in Texas Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 I think you have it dialed in pretty good. Texas is importing Florida bass genetics into our native bass population. And, what I have noticed is in lakes with a good dose of these genetics, they fight like crazy and seem to grow larger. With a medium rod, 6 footer, you'll gain some leverage with the shorter lever; and, your idea of pulling across the top of grass seems like the way to go with lighter tackle, not so much trying to penetrate down into it. To weightless and lightly-weighted worms/creature baits, I'd throw some smaller shad-like plastics, Keitechs for example. Depending on how much water you have above the grass, making them dart around, fall, look like an injured bait fish works at times as good as anything. Oh! And, if you can find/access small openings in the grass, consider some of the micro-jigs on the market now becoming popular. They always hit jigs . . . the trick will be getting them out of the grass on spinning gear. One pro angler from the southeast has won a lot of money doing this with 4000 series spinning reels and stout rods. He hits places hard to get to with casting gear. Best of luck!!! Brad 1 Quote
Beetlebz Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 The first thing I thought of was keitechs and flukes over the grass. Man what a wild ride! Big reaction bites are just crazy exciting on spinning gear. 1 Quote
