Hey guys- my first post to this forum. I have enjoyed reading many post on here along with the answers and comments. I am a new boat owner and it has some modifications from the previous owner but I want to re-do the whole boat to my ideas (or in hope from you guys too with some good ideas). It is a fiberglass 14' x 60" at the widest point. First, here are my ideas that I have for the boat.

1.Paint the boat, outside and inside.

2.Install new carpet

3. Add some storage areas

4. Paint the trailer

5. New tires on the trailer.

6. New winch (manual)

7.Seats re-dyed to another color

8.Maybe add some decals to the side

9.New trolling motor

Ok, enough for the wish list, lol! I will ask some questions about the items I want to change on numbers 1-9!

1. What would be the best type of paint to use and would a roller work or spray?Best sand paper to use on fiberglass tp prep it for painting?

2. Best place to buy carpet and from experience...any special type?

7. planning on using the vinyl dye for the seats..any recommendations?

8. suggestions on where to get a good variety of decals?

I have more questions but I will spare you guys of those right now, lol. It will be concerning electrical, wiring of all electrical equipment.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions on these items.

Well first off welcome to the board!

I don't know much about modifications (from my thread I am about to modify my boat as well).

But I do know you can purchase the carpeting from Cabelas or bass proshops as well as the decals. You can also find decals probably at any hardware store.

The carpeting at cabela's is a marine series.

I wish you luck and I hope some people are more help than I am lol!  ;D

God bless  ;)

The HomeDepot/Lowes marine carpet will do you just fine. Every boat I have built has it and best of all it's inexpensive. The best place that I've found to buy electrical hardware for boats is Acadamy Sports and for the hard to find stuff use iboats.com. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM WEST MARINE!!!! They are way overpriced. I bought a 5 dollars fuse on iboats.com and West Marine had it for 45 dollars. Check out my thread at the top of this section. (Birth of an electric bass boat.) You might get a few ideas from it. If you have any questions for me feel free to PM me. I don't know much about glass boats though but there are several others on here that do.

Lowes and Home Depot sell these indoor/outdoor carpet sections, about 6 by 8 in a small roll for something like 15 bucks.  Usually back on a pallet, near the carpet section.  We have used this on a couple jons, and jon boat bunks.  For what it is worth, it is fairly useful.  Don't even venture into west marine, or boaters world.  Between the big box hardware stores, and iboats.com, you can get most everything.  Follow the BPS, and Walmart sales.  Can get good deals on certain parts that way.

Good luck, and have fun.

In order of increasing expense, Academy, BPS , AND THEN THERE'S WEST MARINE

I am planning my boats layout and decided to add one more battery and toss on two spot light headlights, and a radio with waterproof speakers.  I will also add some good fatigue padding like in the birth of an electric boat thread.

Thanks for the info guys.....I had a chance last week to start taking some things off the boat that I did not want on it and it is starting to look better already, lol. I am thinking about relocating my battery from the back near the motor to midway near my fish/depth finder and trolling motor.

I also want to re-wire everything and have a panel box to control my trolling motor, lights and fish/depth finder......any forum topic here or another site I could go to so I could see how to do this panel box with switches? Thanks again for the replies and I hope each and everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving with their families!!!
