253flo Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 I'm dying to go fishing this weekend, but it's suppose to rain the entire weekend in South Florida. I understand not going out when it's pouring rain but, how are the fishing conditions during moderate showers and light rain? What type of bait do you use in the rain? Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 19, 2018 Global Moderator Posted May 19, 2018 Fishing in light rain doesn't bother me. As far as baits are concerned, I don't change up just because its raining. Mike 1 1 Quote

Robert Bagnall Jr Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 We are in our rainy season now. But this week is really bad. Time to knock out some honey do lists for the better half. 2 Quote
PECo Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 When I went intracoastal fishing near Fort Myers on May 14, this was the forecast on Weather Underground: We ended up seeing only scattered, intermittent rain with no hint of electrical activity. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch. That was the good news. The bad news is that the low pressure really killed the bite. Quote
Bugeyed Earl Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Fished this afternoon in a light drizzle. Saw a few nice peacock bass, but couldn't get them to bite. Caught a bunch of mayan cichlids who weren't as shy. Going to try the ocean tomorrow, they're definitely biting out there this week! Quote
Wurming67 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 I'm good ,have fun guys?Tuesday is looking like a great day to call in sick to work? 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted May 20, 2018 Super User Posted May 20, 2018 I fished two days in a row from the bank. A total of 4 hours in the rain Friday and Saturday, no lightning. I put on my Frog Toggs, hat, and hood. Dry as a bone, the entire time, they are not hot, and it never stopped raining. I don't change baits just because its raining. Got to go with what you have confidence in. If I'm taking the boat and there is a threat of a storm, I go to the Alley. Lots of bridges to tie up under, until the threat passes. I have sat out many storms under the Alligator Alley bridges. 1 Quote
Wurming67 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Water conducts current I'm not putting my life or my family's well being to catch a bass to eachs own. 3 Quote

shallow thinker Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 I fished Lox on Saturday. It was slow but the weather cooperated until about 11:30am. There was a short topwater bite just before the down pour but it was mostly stick baits. Biggest was 3 lbs. Both of the gates west of Lox ramp were wide open so there was tons of current. Water levels are pretty normal so I could run anywhere on the flats. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 21, 2018 Super User Posted May 21, 2018 I have caught some of my biggest bass during/after heavy rains but no longer fish during thunderstorms since I value my health and family far above fishing. Besides I have several decades of quality life ahead of me so I have plenty of time to catch more bass in better weather. Nice! I fished last weekend there and had absolutely no luck. Where in the glades were you fishing? Quote
Soflobassing Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Around the forty mile bend right off of eight street Quote
FloridaBass Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Very late reply but if it's rained the day before the spillways are flowing, imo one of the best ways to catch fish is fishing a spillway. Quote
Soflobassing Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Yea I usually check the spillways first I always see big fish over my tiny pb but I can never catch them. Any tips? Quote
