Joshua Elder Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I have a really clear reservoir lake in north Georgia that I fish that is solely creek fed. This lake has multiple creek channels most going down to around 50 ft with lots of brush. I swear I'm reading fish down there but I've never fished this deep before and I was wondering if its even worth my time to try. If it is what would you recommend lure wise and/or how would you fish this. Thanks Quote
Bill Kowalski Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Send a drop shot down and see what happens. Quote
FrankN209 Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 If I'm not mistaken, I've heard of bass 50ft down in Comanche. Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Oh yeah if your seeing them, they're there. Carolina rig 1ounce weight till you find them then swap to a dropshot so you can feel the bites easier. Try different baits, flukes/lizards/brush hogs etc... Definitely worth fishing if your patient enough I read an article by Mike iaconneli he was fishing 1/4 hair jigs in 40ft of water catching bass Quote
WCWV Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Caught one this past winter on drop shot at 52' Yeah, they'll go deep Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 19, 2018 Super User Posted May 19, 2018 as deep as the thermocline and other conditions will let them. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 19, 2018 Super User Posted May 19, 2018 Crow Lake Ontario Canada caught a Snallmouth between 100’ to 90’ jigging a spoon and it’s common to catch winter LMB in 60’ to 80’ at lakes Casitas, Castiac and DVL. If you do target deep bass educate yourself on how to fizz them or return them immediately back deep. Tom 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 19, 2018 Super User Posted May 19, 2018 The deepest I have caught them was 40 foot in autumn . Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 20, 2018 Super User Posted May 20, 2018 My home lake is 34 feet deep. I have caught smallmouth in 34 feet. The deepest I have caught largemouth was 25 feet deep. It's more common for them in this lake to go out OVER deep water, but suspend 15-20 feet down over those depths, which are primarily featureless , mud bottoms, than it is for them to be on the bottom. When they do this, it makes for some mighty tuff fishing. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 20, 2018 Super User Posted May 20, 2018 I have caught spotted bass at 65', but will never fish that deep again. ~30' is as deep as I fish now. oe Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted May 20, 2018 Super User Posted May 20, 2018 Believe it or not I have caught spotted bass on Shasta at over 90 ft. Saw them on the graph and thought I would see what would happen. Was using a half ounce spoon. Didn't enjoy the wait of getting the spoon down so didn't do again. But have caught many over 50' and 60' on this lake at mouths of creeks. Down side is you have they puking up a lot of baitfish over the carpet, so you hold them over the side.....as long as they go straight back into the water they rocket down never to be seen again. Amazing lake. Quote
