Broke my 735 and gonna change to a jig rod. Which rod for 3/4 oz football jigs, DC 744C or DC 764C?

DC744 is extra fast. So i'd get it. When I ordered my first DX jig rod, I asked for the best rod for football jigs and it was the DX745. (So I guess that's my true answer). I think it's a little overpowered for what I do, so the 744 should be adequate.

I was using the champion 735 I broke as a frog rod. I just read where some people use it being a 5 power for 3/4 oz jigs. A friend of mine said to go with the 764. Now I can't decide.

What I don't like is a rod that feels like a broom stick, but I like a sensitive rod to feels the bottom while dragging jigs, just not too giving.

It's a tough choice since I can't feel them in person.

Best insight you'll be able to get, outside of actually using them, is giving Dobyn's a call. I've talked to them a lot and even talked to Gary Dobyn's a few times. Having used the DC735 and a DX745, they both have plenty of tip (I threw 1/10oz ned rigs on my 745 in a tournament situation once), so they won't feel like a broomstick. They're also Dobyn's, so they'll be light and well balanced which helps a lot.

Surprised the 744 is being suggested for 3/4oz footballs. I have a extreme 744, not 100% sure if the champion series has more power or not... but I would not throw 3/4oz footballs with my 744 extreme... I don't even throw 1/2oz jigs on it often. It's great Trig, 3/8oz jig rod imo...

745, 784 would make way more sense to me. to each his own though :)

I wouldn't use either the DC744C or the DX784C for 3/4oz jigs since it would not be optimum for 1oz rated rods.  I personally own the DX784HP and use it for up to 1/2oz jigs and Carolina rigs in deep water.  Since I also own the DC735C and the DC736CB Glass, I use these rods for heavier jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc.  I would recommend that you choose either the DC764C (rated to 1.5oz baits) or the DX745C.  Personally, if I was in your situation with a broken Champion DC735C, I'd send it back to Dobyns and use it to trade up to the DX745C, pay the extra dollars for a great bigger jig/Carolina rig rod.

Funny, the array of opinions....I have a DX 744 FH and I find that 3/4 oz jigs are pretty much well within the sweet spot.
