Neither is expensive.  You said 'baitcasters', plural.  Good chance you don't need the same test on all reels.

I suggest a spool of each -- try them both, and see which you prefer....and get some KVD Line Conditioner for whichever you choose.

Yo-zuri hybrid with KVD line conditioner is a great line setup for the money.  12 lb test has an actual breaking strength of almost 20 lbs.

Same with Big Game 12lb. It may even exceed 20.

I just spooled up with yozuri 12 lb and had a hammer handle pike engulf my crank bait and cut me off at the boat. Hoped it would have held up a little better. I will spool up some big game on my other reel.

I suspect that youre right, it was a function of teeth more than breaking strength. I've had surprise pike bite off chatterbaits when I fish the river. YZH is a pretty tough line and it's got that just right amount of stretch.. I've hauled in some pigs in some slop with it. I've even gotten it snagged and used it to pull myself in to unsnag it on my kayak, then kept fishing without retying. Big game is pretty tough line, might hold up to the teeth a little better. A short leader of big bore big game tied on to the YZH might be a plan too for moving baits in pike waters.

I'm going to bet the pike's teeth got the line.

Either is fine. I use and have used both lines for years. Both lines are a little bigger in diameter than some of the mid to higher priced lines. Both lines are pretty strong especially the Hybrid stuff so I typically get the line in a few sizes smaller than I would buy in a premium line. Exampe - For spinning I get the 6# instead of 8 and for casting I get the 8 or 10# instead of 12. On the casting setup the 8# is used for jerkbaits and topwater while the 10# is great for most plastics and lighter jigs. Also note I like my line smaller than many people run. There are not many fish over 5 or 6 pounds here and no zebra muscles. Cover is your typical rip rap, wood, and weeds.

Yea, no doubt the teeth sliced the line. Bummed because I only brought 1 lure to mess with and actually got into fish. Sad thing is that lil pike had the lure choked and I am sure no way was it able to dislodge it. I have used big game for my musky trolling rods (30lb) with no issues...

I ave the yozuri hybrid on all my bait casters that don't have braid.  I will also echo the need for the KVD one conditioner as it helps a lot with manageability.
