TNReb Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I fished a scrounger for the first time a couple of weeks ago while on a trip with Mike Carter on Guntersville. We talked about how the lure wobbled... I bought a pack for myself, but realized mine don't wobble. They spin. My line gets really twisted. I tried a couple different plastics on them, including the second Zoom Flukes I used with Mike. Am I missing something? Obviously I could add a swivel, but it isn't SUPPOSED to spin... Quote
blckshirt98 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Is the lip warped and is the bait centered correctly? I know the scrounger heads have a softer plastic lip maybe the one you're using got warped somehow, have you tried another scrounger head from the package? Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 17, 2018 Super User Posted May 17, 2018 The should isolate back and forth without spinning with a trailer threaded on. The collar should be upright 12o'clock inline with the hook eye. It's the collar has a pitch like a propeller instead of being flat. Tom Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 17, 2018 Super User Posted May 17, 2018 SLOW DOWN your retrieve. These bait work best when they are c r a w l e d slowly along the bottom. It's not like a chatter bait / vibrating jig. These must be worked much slower - but that's when the magic happens. A-Jay 2 Quote
TNReb Posted May 17, 2018 Author Posted May 17, 2018 I appreciate the input. I'll make sure and try a different head tomorrow. It now seems like it's most likely user error. I was cranking it along with pretty good speed (on an 8.2:1 reel also). Quote

blockel Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 From my experience the worst line twists occur with this lure when you let it fall on slack, like you would when you're ledge fishing. I've tried multiple heads and lures and haven't found a solution. Has anyone solved this riddle? I've had good success on it but it absolutely wreaks havoc on my line. 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 One thing I have found with mine, is sometimes the collar will “pop” backward, just push on it a little so the cup in a sense is facing forward. That’s one thing I didn’t know about till I fished it with someone more experienced at it than myself. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 9, 2018 Super User Posted July 9, 2018 Month old thread so don't know if thecOP resolved his problem? The first thing I do with any new lure is watch it run next to my boat to how what the action is like, sinking, slow, fast, etc, before casting it. I check my jig trailers, my soft plastics, everything because I want to know how it looks and feels. Long before Tremor heads came out, before Aaron Martens reintroduced Scroungers I was using the original Scroungers and modifying them to replace the undersize hook with a longer size 5/0 on the 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz sizes using 6" Sluggo back in the early 80's. Properly set up a tuned Scrounger can be fished like a crank bait or bumped along the bottom like a slow swim jig that it is. The collar must be verticle inline with the hook eye, you don't need a swivel or a clip, I tie direct like a jig and fish it like a slower crankbait variing the cadence: 1crank, 3 cranks, 1 crank, 2 cranks etc. cast count it down to whatever depth is desired and retrieve swimming it through bass schools....deadly. detroit1 Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 I agree with slowing down your retrieve, but disagree on it being for deep water / bottom fishing. It's good in all depths. And I like the fact that it has no rattles.... Quote
