Opinions on PLine Fluoroclear

What are your opinions on the PLine Fluoroclear. I've never used it and have a coworker asking about it?

I tried 6#, many years ago.  I had issues with knots, and it seemed to break really easily.  A buddy liked to use 10# on his crankbait rod, and after his line broke in the middle of a cast like three times one day, he stopped using it, too.  I think it's just a really supple, stretchy line, which isn't necessarily a bad quality, but didn't work for me at all.

 

Line choice is VERY personal, and there are so many variables as to why people prefer one over the other.  Sometimes it's something mechanical in the way a person fishes or ties a knot.  Other times, it's what they bought, and it works, so it must be the best.

Two different spools in two different pound tests for me. Yep, crap ? I won't try it again...

I started using P-Line Floroclear 4# line this year. I have tied on inline spinners small swimbaits, small crankbaits, jigs and baitholder hooks using a palomar knot.

 

No issues so far. I caught Trout, Largemouth Bass and toothy Pickerel. I lost a weightless plastic on a cast because I didn't retie my lure after catching 2 Pickerel. I also lost a small crankbait that I could not get unsnagged. Line snapped while trying to work it free. I expected it might as it was only 4# line

I can't count the number of times it's broken on my buddy when he's used it.  Whether it be on the cast, while fighting a fish, on a snag.  He's had nothing but trouble with it.  He's switched to YoZuri and hasn't had any issues.

I tried P-Line twice.

The 1st time I had a difficult time managing it on the spool.

The 2nd attempt was due to my local Tackle Shop saying I must have got a bad spool .... nope same result.

 

It is not for me.

I used the 15# for a couple years without any problems. Then I ran into an entire spool that would break on the hook set every time. It ended up ruining 2 separate fishing trips before I gave up on it. I don't use it anymore because I don't want to run the risk of getting an entire spool of worthless line.

I've had the same experience with KastKing Fluorokote. 3rd cast out and watched my crankbait sail off in the sunset. Won't be using that again!

I use the 15# and 20# as leaders sometimes, and it seems to be fine.

I've sold it a fair amount to people who don't want to break the bank for FC, but want a bit more performance than Trilene. In my experience, it's got the best of both worlds and the worst of both. It's still got better memory than FC, but less stretch and worse knot strength. So I'd pretty much just buy it if you don;t want to buy Seagaur Red Label haha.

+1 ...There are those that either love it or hate it - there is no middle ground !! The deciding factor for me to not use it is there are too many other lines that get more positive results for a hybrid FC / co-poly line or co-poly line with a breaking strength well above their line rating (i.e. Yo-Zuri , Spider Wire Ultimate Mono, C-X) . *Smalljaw67 and Team9nine coached me up - even debating the pros & cons  of needing a FC coated or true FC line at all ?

It is not for me.

The other P-Line products are great.  I love CX Premium and it's my go to line now.

Agreed, love my other P-line products, but I won't use Fluoroclear again except maybe for trout or crappie.

P-Line CXX is one of my favorite all time lines, however the floroclear is crap. I'm not sure why there is such a difference between the two.  Unfortunately I bought 5000 yds of floroclear and so I'm just going to use it to backfill my rods to save some money.

I tried 15lb Fluoroclear with my oldest son's setup based on tackletour's review. It seems thin for a 15lb rating, and may have a little extra stretch. Haven't got a lot of eposire to it yet but I figure its cheap enough where I can got try some CXX or Yo Zuri hybrid if we decide we don't like it.

 

One thing I will say is if I was going to use it in a low pound test for a finesse style setup, I would use 8lb instead of 6lb line.

 

EDIT: This line has horrible memory. Normal memory is round loops from being on your spool but somehow this line got all sorts of squiggly line in weird shapes and I don't even know where that came from. Definitely not a fan of this line.
