Which one do you think?

If you didn't have a lot of money and you wanted a rod that's good for it's price and you could only get one which one would it be. This rod would need to be able to throw most lures. I need something to help a friend that's just getting into fishing for a rod that he can throw most of his baits. He's not gonna be throwing a bull shad or something like that. I started him out on a t rig and I'm working my way in helping him on some more complex techniques.

Tatula 7' MLR.  Rating is in the Medium power range.  The 7'2" MHR if throwing heavier lures. Love these rods.  Should be able to find one for $110 or less.  Paid less than $100 for all of mine with one exception.

Two rods come to mind both are around $50 to $60

 

The Abu Garcia Vengeance and the Kastking Perigee II Both of these rods feel and perform better than their price would have you believe.

 

I suggest a medium action 6'10" rod for all around fishing.

No more than $125 he would like to keep it in the $75 to $100 range but if it's a very good rod he said he would up the budget a little bit. Thanks guys

check out the st. croix premiers. $120 retail but you shouldnt have to pay that much. should he ever break the rod he can have it replaced for $65 (shipping included) or even upgrade it by adding the difference to that. he can treat it like a $65 rod.

 

not sure about replacement plans with the rod companies below but have heard great things about them and i can personally vouch for fenwick

If $100 is too much, then check out the rods Catt mentioned. The Fury gets a lot of votes around here for a $110 rod.  I like my Fenwick HMGs.

Plenty of great rod brands. I use a lot of St. Croix rods and really like them.

 

I was just going to add that if someone is looking for a single rod, a "jack of all trades, master of none" rod, I think I'd select a 7 ft. MH casting rod, or a 7 ft. M spinning rod.

 

In each case, they are very versatile.
