Dieselguy416 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I know most would just use spinning gear but I just don't like spinning. I'm looking for another casting rod similar to the carbonlite 2 med. Lt. That I have now. I really like the rod but the Winn grips are just uncomfortable. I've been looking at the zodias but I haven't found a lot of reviews on it for that power. This rod is mainly Ned rigs but I hope to learn some more finesse techniques because I fish mostly pressured areas and have better luck with smaller presentations. If possible I would like to stay under 150.Thanks for any help. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 14, 2018 Super User Posted May 14, 2018 Check out the Major Craft Don Iovino 6'10" ML-XF. Also Major Craft is having a sale on the Corzza...$120 for $170 rod. I recently got a Benkei and it is a very nice looking rod for the money. Had it out once so far. Liking it. Also check out TackleTour's review of the Villain 2.0 6'10" ML spinning rod. The casting rod should be as good. Hope so because I have one (with no reel on it yet). Ordered it late one night not realizing it said VC instead of VS. I had wanted the spinning model. Glen's Army Navy has the casting model for $155.99. Haven't ever dealt with them so can't offer any feedback on the store. EDIT: Make sure you are looking at the 2.0 model. I didn't care for the original that much. The spinning rod I got wasn't bad, but I disliked the casting model. 1 Quote

Dieselguy416 Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 Thanks for the replies. I like how the corzza looks. Any idea how that med. Fast action feels. I've never held a major craft so I don't know how it compares. Quote
Dieselguy416 Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 Thanks baitfinesse I usually use the 1/16 heads. Okay I will mark the zodias off the list. Do you prefer a fast or extra fast for Ned's. I would rate my carbonlite as fast. Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I really like my Daiwa Tatula 7' ML\R rod it is an outstanding rod for finesse techniques. 1 Quote

Now you tell me! I figured with its 1/4-5/8 oz. rating that it might be a little too much for Ned Rigs. Course I don't know what the total weight is with the smaller heads. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted May 15, 2018 Super User Posted May 15, 2018 I had the carbonlite ML and prefer the MajorCraft Don Iovino Signature Series 6’-10.” Says it’s a medium but those that have it would classify as an ML. Much prefer it over the Carbonlite. St. Croix has a 6-10 ML in the LTB and someone already mentioned the Daiwa. Quote
Dieselguy416 Posted May 15, 2018 Author Posted May 15, 2018 Yeah I also thought the tatula rod would be too much. Yes turd pretty much sums it up. I do love My mh tatula 6 10 though. Major craft is sold out of the corzza 67l. I will have to check out the zodias then. Quote
Robert Riley Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Just got a MH 6'8" Loomis E6X for small swimbaits and shakeyheads, love it. Might be able to find them for pretty cheap around this time. Quote
bunz559 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I have a Expride 7'2 ML that I paired with an Aldebaran and it was a sweet setup! Once I got it dialed in, the setup felt really good. Super light and very sensitive rod. The only thing I wouldn't throw on it is a drop shot, but that's because of my own ability to cast. BTW, my Expride is for sale ?. It's seen the waters twice and is in like new condition. PM with you number if you're interested. I've learned that I prefer a spinning rod for the finesse applications so I ordered a Dobyns 742. Dieselguy416 Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 The corzza was delivered today I can definitely see a difference with the taper vs the carbonlite. The balance is a lot better too. I also ordered the med. Tatula that should be here this week. hopefully it's as nice as the MH tatula That I already have. I will report back after this weekend thanks for all the suggestions. Quote

Dieselguy416 Posted May 31, 2018 Author Posted May 31, 2018 Ok so I have had some time with the corzza and it's much better for the Ned. I also purchased a medium tatula ex fast it doesn't seem to balance as well as the MH tatula. Just thought I'd put that out. Thanks everyone for the help. Now I just have to figure out which fury rod I want for frogs. It seems like it never ends. Lol 1 Quote

DmG Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I’m looking for a rod to dedicate to Ned rigs myself. Did you get the MC corzza 67L??? I wanted to get an megabass orochi xxx black Themis but it’s a jdm rod and I seen someone saying theirs broke. Just wondering how the corzza worked out being that all the rods I’m considering have an x-fast tip and are m-ml power rods. I’ve made due with an medium 6’10” *** black. Only downfall is I have to swap my reels to cast Ned’s on it. I have a Scorpion bfs that helps with the casting but I’d rather not have to swap from rod to rod. Quote

clh121787 Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 In that price range. I've fished 13 7foot medium light, and a tfo medium light. I've had 2 tfos and dont like them at all. You may see if dobyns has a fury in a 702c. The extreme hp 702 I use now is MONEY. Quote

They are an authorised Megabass dealer and any rods they import will be warrantied. Rod power will come down to the weight you intend to throw. ML rods like the Zodias 610ML will work for neds but are best with the heavier 1/7oz heads in my experience and the 1/10 or 1/20 oz heads are better with a L powered BFS stick like the Corzza 67L. I fish my 1/20 and 1/10 heads on a Volkey 68L which is very similar to the Corzza. That what’s sucks. Tackle trap is sold out of the rod. I should’ve just grab the xxx from them a while back when I was sure I wanted that rod. I’ve eyed the glx and nrx 802c. 1/7oz is the lightest I’d be throwing with this combo. I’ve been blessed to have an 68ml Phenix k2. This rod works but I’m stuck on using it as an dedicated drop shot when in tactical situations. I’m no pro but I kayak and wade a lot and it’s been times where I wanted to cover a long stretch and having to switch gear slowed the grind down. Ponds and smaller lakes is the most I do so I’m keeping all my combos between 6-6’10. I’m sure I can find a 1pc black Themis still but without the warranty..... I’m still gonna get one. I’ve considered a custom z bone or helium3. And I do have high interest in major craft. I need a nice fast or Xf tip because I’ll probably use this combo for finesse jigs also. I haven’t done any ultralight finesse but now that I own a bfs reel I think I’ll just put together a nice spinning rod for that if i ever get into fishing that light of baits Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted August 15, 2018 Super User Posted August 15, 2018 I have a XXX Themis and while I really like it, it does far far better at the upper end of it's weight range. It will cast a 3/16oz Ned, but not super well. It's very much an XF action and I have never really liked them for light weight lures. I think like 5\16-3\8oz is the sweet spot for the BT. I also have a Phenix Recon 681 casting rod and it is a "fast-medium fast" and it does far better casting light lures. Quote
