Here in Canada, we just don't have access to some products. Mend it seems to be one of those products.

Would something like gorilla glue work to "mend" soft plastic baits back together? I realize that mend it is not a glue but rather a chemical reaction substance, but the only thing I can find locally is something called JB weld which sounds similar but more industrial/extreme.

Just looking for something to help cut cost on replacing worms and creature baits when ripped or torn up a bit.

FISHNTECH out of Quebec carry Mend-It.

Mend-It stays soft when applied, most glues dry hard to the touch.

Be careful with Mend-it and some baits, I've tried it with Z-Man TRD's and it melts the plastic. I keep a bottle of Lock-tite gel for Z-Man plastics as well. Dries hard, but it's something I can deal with.

I use both. I had worries about Gorilla drying hard, but there are not many critters in the water, that do not have a hard spot or two. I doubt the hard glue matters, when a fish commits to a bait.

If they hit cranks, lipless, square bill and hard plastic topwater baits..a dollop of crazy glue should not matter IMO.

I used MEND-it at the house, when I have time...super glues on the water when I need a quick fix.

FISHNTECH is a great company, I’ve ordered lots of stuff for my boat from them, as well as some lures and fishing products. I live in central Ontario, and everything took 2-3 days tops to get to my door.

Gorilla glue also expands a lot when it dries and it takes a while to cure fully.  I'd stick to trying to find mend-it myself.

Thanks for the help everyone. I will look into the mend it brand.

If you do use JB Weld, word of warning, when it dries it DRIES. If you get it anywhere other than where you want it, get it off ASAP. I lived in a house where some moron had used about two tubes to ‘repair’ a leaking sink in the bathroom. Took me a couple of hours and a hammer/chisel to get it off so I could repair it correctly.

Just an FYI gorilla glue is dangerous to dogs.  I've not had my dog chew any baits yet but something to keep in mind.  I only mention it if there is anyone like me who regularly has their dog on the boat where there is a possibility of a glued bait laying around.

She did chew the foam handle knob off a reel though.

I have used the Gorilla super glue (it has a brush applicator) before I got my mend-it. It works well enough but soft plastics do get a tiny bit hard but if you "knead" the repaired area with your fingers (after it has dried) it will get softer and feel much better.
